  • Baxter "The One-Armed Bandit" Humby

    Hello everyone,

I have just recently heard about a former kickboxing champion named Baxter "The One-Armed Bandit" Humby. He has won over 30 plus bouts despite having only use of his left arm! Needless to say, he must be a remarkable individual. I was wondering if anyone has any links to some of his fights? Anyone seen him fight in-person? If so, please tell me about it. I scoured the Net and found several but sites that briefly talk about him but nothing really informative. I know he currently teaches kickboxing at a YMCA in CA. He used to fight out of Canada. I wish he had a dedicated homepage. Here's a link with a pic of him (http://www.kickboxing.com/media/baxterhumby.htm). Thanks!

He was scheduled to fight just last weekend in Upland CA, for a championship against Mushin Corbbrey.

    Haven’t heard any results.

      Normal,

Don't think I've seen the result of that match posted yet either. He's supposed to be a great counter-striker. Would love to see him in action to see what modifications he has made to be so effective in the ring.

I think I saw this guy fight hear in New Mexico last year (at least, he was using the same nickname). One arm was amputated at the elbow, and he taped the glove on and used it to block his head.

I recall he relied pretty heavily on low kicks, particulary cut kicks. He lost the bout I saw, but not by much.

We couldn't believe it when we saw him step into the ring.

          Hey Greg,

Sounds about right. If you see the pic in the link I provided, Humby wears a glove on his right arm. I am not sure if this arm was amputated or it was a result of a congenital birth defect. In any event, from what I gather he has put up a good fight even in his losses. The reason Humby interests me is that I too have almost no mobility in one of my arms (left). I have just started some training and I am trying to adapt Rodney King's Crazy Monkey Boxing to fit my needs. I figure watching someone like Humby could really help me along.

Ive seen Baxter fight twice. He is awesome. He won his fight in Upland. I was there. And i also saw him fight in Victorville couple months ago. He also won that fight. Its really cool watching him fight. He sure has heart. Just goes to show... You see all these people complaining how hard something is. Then you think man... this guy with 1 arm did it, AND hes a champion! I have a lot of respect for Baxter.

              Athecy,

Thanks for the update. Was Humby's win in Upland against against Cordbrey? If so, what championship did he win?

Yes, he did fight Muhsin Cordbrey (sp?). Im not sure what title it was for but Im pretty sure Baxter was defending his title. I wasnt paying attention to what happened after his fight was done. Me and my buds started talking about the next fight, which was Pongsan Ek-Yotin's fight. The guy he fought was a joke! During the whole fight the guy Pong fought kept shaking his ass around and acting all gay. Every time Pong would clinch he would try to turn his ass to Pong. It was silly. Pong ended up kickin his ass and winning though.

Didn't know he was still held a championship title as I referred to him as "former champion". My mistake. Hope I get to see him fight someday since most of his fights on the West Coast.

Thanks for the pics, David! That's already three times as many pics as I've seen of Humby thus far. I did manage to find out that one of Humby's students posts on the sherdog forums so I'm going to do a search there for any info. Thanks again.
