The best known camp to westerners near the city of Chiang Mai seems to be Lanna. There are on the Internet websites for two other camps close to this city, Siam Number 1 and Chiang Mai Olympia. Has anyone ever been to one of these camps? Are they as good as Lanna or maybe even better?

checkout muaythai2000.com and the muay thai camps link. Just because there are not many web sites for muay thai camps dosent meant there anent many muay thai camps, infact i think it may be better to go to a camp that dose not have a web site, that way you know that they are not to americanized, you want them to be a little americanized, so you can talk to them and stuff, but you still want to know that they can still train good fighters that fight in thailand

Siam No. 1 was opened while I was in Chiang Mai, by Ajahn Suchart from Siam No.1 in Toronto. He's a good man, and the camp looks nice. Khru Beum, co-opener at Siam, used to trainer at Lanna, in fact if you go to the webpage, you see many Lanna emblems on shirts. Olympia is also supposed to be a good camp as well. Once you get there, you don't have to commit to anything, check them out. Experiences will vary.

Check out Chay Yai Gym...
Chay Yai Gym - Chaing Mai Muay Thai - Muay Thai training in Thailand
Much more personal attention than the other camps in Chaing Mai in my opinion.

I spent two months at Lanna and I loved it.
What George Stando pointed out is definitely a concern - the camp does attract a lot of "tourist boxers" (people with no experience who come out for a couple of classes just to say that they've trained Muay Thai), and this can make getting quality pad time with the trainers a problem. You definitely have to take the initiative and harass the trainers for pad time - maybe you shouldn't have to, but this wasn't a problem for me.
Side note - I was very impressed by the fighters I saw from Chai Ya gym.
Side note #2. I miss Thailand.
