  • Jeet Kun Do VS Muay Thai boxing???

Wondering which one would most likely win in a match in a ring?? How about in a street fight? Just curious.... I just started taking Muay Thai for about a month and my buddy just started taking Jeet Kun Do... We each think our own MA is better than each others... opinions..?

well, muay thai is a set style, jkd isn't. it's a concept. i don't really know what muay thai schools teach other then punches, kicks, and cliches (i know there are elbows, headbutts, and knees, so plz don't flame me) but i know in jkd, your getting a wide range of different aspects and different "sides" of the martial arts that you wouldn't normally get a school that teaches a set style

      Its a matter of preferences.

JKD is more of a concept, that utilizes techniques from arts as diverse as silat, muay thai, FMA, wing chun & grappling. Its very functional. Each school might emphasize something different, so I'm told but the core concepts are the same and the training is realistic because you train in every fighting range and with weapons.

Muay Thai is a contact sport, that has alot of combat applications because of its full range of weapons and attacks. Muay thai fighters are known for their devastating kicks, knees and elbows but also clinch techniques. They are also known for their killer conditioning.

        ...

Well, seeing as Jeet Kune Do is a style you formulate through practice and experience, it's a toss up, really.

        Later...

Being able to survive 3 rounds against a pro-fighter aint bad for someone who trains in a different style (but it aint nothin' to brag about either), but it sounds like a mismatch meant to draw intrigue, ya know.

How many professional fights did the JKD guy have compared to the Thaiboxer? How about total fights? My guess is that the JKD guy had way fewer fights than the Thaiboxer, but this is only a guess.

Also, how did each fighter prepare for this match?

This JKD is not suppos to be a chump, i think he has had 15 or 20 fights in america. The Japanese fighter only had like 20 fights, he is nothing super special, just another K-1 fighter. Valentine is such a joke, he gives a bad name to JKD He fought agin in the latest K-1 max in japan aginst yamaoto kid and got KOd in llike 30 seconds, he sould not fight in k-1 again he is totally outclassed, but i love watching this bruce lee wannabe get KOd.

                20 fights?

                In American style kickboxing? NHB?

There's a difference between K-1 level and American kickboxing. Not dissing it at all, but there is.

I think the Rufus brothers moved up from American Kickboxing into K-1, but I could be mistaken.

I guess he's new to K-1, that would explain it.

Having a veritable fight back ground vs. Muay Thai fight background, under K-1 rules would favor the MT guy.

What do you think about Yilmaz Serka, the TKD guy whom fought Masado in a recent K-1 bout? He lasted, allthough his legs took a beating.
