    Hey Beginner Man,

I live near the Oyama place (Addison) and am intrested in muay thai. Im 20 years old, I've never done any martial arts at all, and am not in the best shape, do you think this place would be good for me? and could you tell me how much it is?

    thanks,
    Matt

seriously, you guys should check it out. don't be intimidated. everyone has started at beginner's level. i know i am.

matt, i can't be much of a resource since i am very new to the club. but i pay 85 for 2classes per week for a month. i forget the dates, but everyone there is pretty cool, and helpful. there's no official beginner's class, since the class is not that big. check it out.

for muay thai though, know that at Oyama that of the two days of classes per wk, (tue & thu) thursday is sparring day.

          Beginner Man,

I am 27. I know I am probably pretty old to compete but not old at all to train. Nobody is ever too old to learn. I still want to train in MT. I am in pretty good shape because I do that CrossFit Strength and Conditioning program. The experience level doesn't really matter. It's the commitment and dedication, and the desire to learn.

Mattew. You're lucky to have two places close to you to chose from - Oyama and Hackney's in Roselle. And you're just the right age right now. Don't wait any longer. Get your butt in one of those places. Don't worry about your fitness levels - it will come as you train. The sport itself will bring your fitness level up and you can also do some additional training. If I join Oyama's I'll advice you guys on the Crossfit S&C method and on the Russian Kettlebells that I work out with. If you're completely out of shape like I was a few years ago, start by walking, running, and add some calisthenics, and then join in a few months.

          Later guys! Good luck!

George, I'm not that far away from you in age, man. I'm 23, turning 24. I have been weightlifting 3x/wk for a year, but I've neglected heavy cardio. I agree, it's never too late to learn. In fact, I don't know why it'd be too late for you to compete.

I know I'm a bit out of shape, with low endurance/stamina, but nothing good comes easy, and I'm expecting to work my butt off to get my endurance/stamina up.

Hope to maybe see you guys there. I go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

              Beginner Man,
That's good that you're doing some type of training. From what I understood you're probably doing a split, bodybuilding-type routine. If you do, let me tell you there are much better ways to train, especially if you'r doing a sport like MT. Check out Crossfit at www.CrossFit.com This is the S&C program that I do. It not only involves lifting for strength but is excellent for endurance and cardio and is perfect for sports. If you train in MT twice a week, and add a few of those CrossFit workouts a week, you'll see dramatic results really fast. However, I am thinking two days a week of MT isn't enough. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyways, check out that site. Download the free "What is fitness?" and "Foundations of Fitness." Those are a great read. Later.

I agree, it's seriously not enough. There's open gym on Saturdays from 10a-2p so that contributes to training time. I'm probably gonna ask to see how much a private class would be, at least 1, so I can catch up to the rest of the people in class.

Hi, I just joined this forum. I was living near Schaumburg for a while and I trained in Palatine, it's called FLO MMA. I was training in Jiu Jitsu but I know the coach for Muay Thai is very good. It's not far from Schaumburg and you should really check it out. If you want Muay Thai shorts, visit my site, The Exotic Earth Shop. I just got back from Thailand and bought a bunch of cool stuff with me.
