  • New K1 weight class?

Anybody know if K1 is going to have more weight classes? So far, if you are a natural 190 lbs (ripped), you have the choice of admitting yourself to a concentration camp to lose 40 lbs. to fight in the world Max -- or taking whatever chemicals Bob sapp eats for breakfast in order to hang with behemoth's like him. Some organizations, including the Olympics, have Heavyweights as 190-225 lbs. and Super-Heavyweights as 225 and up. I would imagine that their are some Roy Jones jrs. and Tarver's out there that can't get noticed in the Muay Thai circuit because of this problem.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    K-1 weight classes

In the past, K-1 has had, in addition to the free weight-class, an 80 kilo tournament a long time ago (Hoost won), a 60-kilo tournament about 5 years ago, and now they are doing the K-1 Max at 70-kilos. There is no talk of a cruiserweight division, which is not surprising. With the success of K-1 Max, I would imagine that they would be thinking of returning to the 60-kilo division, since there are far more talented fighters in that division than there would be in the cruiserweight division.

while I would like to see more varied weight classes (how many does boxing have?) I think the way the K-1 tournaments are set up means that it would just be too expensive to organise many more weight classes. personally I would like to see them have another "super heavy weight" division for the freaks like sapp and akebono so they stop cluttering up the real heavyweight fight cards with their bullshit antics.

Yeah, sucks for people my size: 5'10" and 193lbs (not quite ripped). I could techically fight as a heavyweight but I would be tiny compared to the other guys. I'd have to beefcake up to 225 or so to have a chance.
