  • Need help finding kickboxing school i Seattle

I recently moved to Seattle from Oslo, Norway, and I am looking for a place to continue with kickboxing. I have been kickboxing for only a year (have achieved the orange belt) and I would like to continue. I am used to the syle with no knees or elbows. My club in Norway is a member of WAKO. I am manly interested in training light-contact, but also a bit of semi-contact.
    Hope someone can help me.

P.S i live in Wallingford and I do not have a car, so nothing to distant.

    Seattle Kickboxing

    Hi Una,

Welcome to Seattle! I own Alpha Martial Arts in Greenlake. We're two blocks east of the lake at 6560 Latona Ave. NE. Give the school a call at (206) 528-3737 or email info@alphamartialarts.com and we can set up a time for you to come in and check out our kickboxing program. Not sure if it's what you are looking for, but we offer a free trial so you can decide for yourself.

    Cheers,
    Chris

      Try NW Kali/JKD

Outside of Seattle, in Federal Way, is Chris Clarke's school, NW Kali/JKD. He is a full instructor under Dan Inosanto and a certified Thaiboxing Association of the USA instructor as well. He teaches numberous Thaiboxing classes throughout the week. Some of his students compete in local kickboxing events as well. He is a highly qualified instructor and as well as a nice guy.
check out his website at www.nwkali.com

        MKG Seattle

MKG Seattle is also somewhat in the area:

        8310 Greenwood Ave N.
        Seattle, WA
        98103

        www.mkgseattle.com

I've worked with the head instructor there Khuen Khru Any Wilson at the 2003 Utah Guro Inosanto Seminar and a couple of the Oregon Thai Camps. He is one of the nicest guys and as you can see, a very committed instructor.

He invited me to train at his gym over the last Thanksgiving Holliday. Unfortunately, I got tied up with family obligations. He is a very good instructor and I would definitely recomend him.

Maurice Smith's Kickboxing gym was merged with a pankration school that now offers both, so you may want to check that place out for sure: http://www.pankration.com/

            kickboxing without knees or elbows

You're definitely in the right place if you want to do kickboxing and not thaiboxing. Washington is a great "boxkicking" state, just go to any local fight card and you'll see most of the "good" fighters being predominent boxers. You'll rarely see a "modified" muay thai fight that allows knees. You can go to kim messer's school in bellevue or AMC where someone said maurice merged with a pankration school. FYI..Maurice originally came from AMC(www.pankration.com) before he started his own school which he sold to Kim Messer before she moved onto a bigger location.
If you don't want to be a good ring fighter than definitely check out Chris Clarke's school in Federal Way. I say this out of experience when Clarke used to still have fighters fight and watch them get ko'd, etc. If you're in Wallingford MKG might be the closest for you; I don't know of this alpha martial arts school. Alberto's school aka chai sai muay thai or nw muay thai is a allright school to learn how to fight with knees but you said you don't want to use knees or elbows and it is in Tacoma which would be far for you. Good luck on finding your full contact karate school Mr. WAKO.
