Jerome Le Banner vs. Francois Botha

One of K-1's best vs boxing's former best. 1st round starts off with Le Banner giving Botha a run for his money with leg and body kicks. Botha fought smarter in the 2nd and studied Le Banner carefully. He stayed out of the way from Le Banner's legs and closed effectively, rocking the K-1 fighter with his bombs! At one time or another Le Banner connected with a solid leg kick, but Botha showed perserverance and good defense by staying inside and taking the fight to Le Banner. He worked Le Banner with hard jabs and strong counters and eventually sent Le Banner to one knee

Botha win by TKO!!!!

Koaklai Kaennorsing vs. Alexey Ignashov

WOW!!! Talk about size difference. Tale of the tape

Kaennorsing: 5'11" 172 lbs - former Rajadamnern super welterweight champ

Ignashov: 6'5" 239 lbs - ISKA/WMC heavyweight champion.

Kaennorsing chased the big guy around the ring with the hit & run strategy. When Ignashov loaded up, Kaennorsing was allready out of the way and ready to counter. The little guy is fast, rather powerful and showed considerable killer instinct against a much larger and powerful fighter.

IMO, he didn't seem like Le Banner of old. I think his left arm is still giving him issues and Botha got the TKO because Le Banner couldn't answer fight the extension round. Apparently he had to go see a doctor straight after the fight.

Also Sefo seems to be in great form, especially since he lost all that weight and only weight 100Kg flat now. Personally I'm hoping for a 98Kg Ray to come in to the finals, like the Sugarfoot Sefo of old, and take the crown this year.

How boring would that get? The lightweights have some of the most exciting fights.

k-1 max is FAR better than heavyweights imo. everyone is the same size because of the 70kg weight restriction, so its pure skill that decides the fights. also much faster and more open rules- you are allowed to throw, you can do as many knees as you want from the clinch, you are allowed to use a proper thai clinch. pretty much thai boxing but they dont score throws and there are no elbows.

having said that I still love to watch heavyweights. Sefo is gonna take it this year imo, he was ON FIRE in the elimination. barring unforseen injury, I have no doubt he will win, and good on him. to be honest Remy got it easy last year in his fight line up, but musashi is much improved this year (he wont win though) Aets and Hoost need to retire. Mcdonald is in awesome shape and a great, very clean fighter, but dammit he just isnt aggressive enough. when you are shorter than everyone else you cant afford to let them dictate the pace like he does.

that thai guy is going to get killed. I thought it seemed suspicious that they put him up against a far from healthy ignashov, and guess who his firs opponent in tokyodome is? mighty moe. if he gets hit by the same right hand that won moes vegas fights... hes fucking dead. seriously. or if remy hits him with the kick he nailed akebono with. he lucked out on Ignashov, who was performing so much under his best that probably almost anyone in the k-1 circuit couldve won.

However, this is not an MMA match and is going to be pure stand up. Maybe Kaennorsing will withdraw and bring in a substitute? Maybe he'll win on points? Maybe he'll get KOd. Guess will find out. Yeah, a 108 lb weight difference (with little difference in skill) doesn't look promising...
