  • Increasing Flexibility

    higher kicks?

you can practice bringing your leg higher in the air by holding on to a chair or the wall. That will increase your range of kicking. Keep doing regular leg stretches too.

When you practice your higher kicks, remember to pivot more on your supporting leg.

      Cheerz Tom ,
What ya think of this (heard from a girl i know ,a balet dancer and she is FLEXIBLE) :
Sit on Floor with legs apart and try to lower you body as close to the ground as possible .
      Thanks

you can also lean onto your kicking leg so your body is diagonal to the ground. Some people would argue that its disadvantageous, but if you do it fast it doesnt really matter. What I do for flexibility is put my foot onto a chair or sometihng and lean forward until i get a stretch. For higher side kicks i do the same but with my foot in the position of a side kick fully extended. I do this everyday, sometimes even twice. Ive noticed that since the about 2 weeks since ive started i can kick like 5 inches higher, and i can kick medium height with more balance. BTW i also do normal leg stretches every day(the type you do in gym)

I would say you should ask the ballet dancer on a date..........

oh, you mean about stretching? that's a good one for loosening up your inner thighs and upper leg.

If you want to kick hard and fast. You should focus on dynamic stretching either first thing in the morning or before your training session. Begin with a warm up say for example skipping for about 5 mins to get the blood circulating. Then begin with 5 sets of 30 kicking the leg
up from various angles. Do not throw the leg up, ensure you control the motion of the leg. After your training session go for a relaxed stretch.

stretch with your woman in the morning. I'm sure she knows more stretches than just about everyone on this forum.

Besides, the couple that trains together, stays together.

I do have a question for everybody
Do you guys stretch before working out? Do you guys warm up before stretching? Or do most of you stretch at the end of your workouts?

Personally, I always stretch only after warming up first.

I've heard, not validated, a statistic that if an individual were to stretch prior to working out they increase their chances of injury from the workout.

I usually only stretch my calves and hamstrings prior to running on the treadmill. I usually run only on inclines on the balls of my feet.

I should do more stretching I just never do it.

We do this at where i do Muay Thai , but we do it mixed in with the the stretch , after the 20 mins skipping , push ups , dorsal raises sit ups and dips.
Apparently that increases flexibility , so i guess we do it with the stretch where i train.
Gonna give these stretches a go and record me results somehow and see the before and after results
Got an interview at a Gym now , Yahoo

I've had a lot of success with those cheap pulley stretchers they sell. They work very well for gaining flexibility in the lower body, after about 8 months with one of those I went from nowhere near a split to almost a full split, then got it 4 months after that.
