No!! It should have come out this month in Thailand but they post-poned the release, I don't know when it will come out, but hopefully it shouldn't take too long.
Just so you all knwo Ong Bak is not a new movie. I have 2 copies I bought about a year ago. Its just new to North America. Save the high pricing internet, and goto a thai website, they are a dime a dozen.
But I still went to see at the theatres, of course !!!
Ong Bak has been in the rental stores here in France for a while now. Why so late hitting cinemas in the States? It seems Muay Thai is much more developed in France -- I'm American by the way and have taken up the sport in France. There are clubs everywhere!!
Another film Chok Dee, actually a French production, is coming out in the cinema's this week in the Hexagon. It has gotten pretty good reviews and a lot of publicity. Strangely, I haven't found an official site. Here is a review link (in French)
The basic story is about a petty criminal named Ryan who meets an ex-champion (Jean) while in prison in France. Jean introduces him to the discipline and when he is released he goes to Thailand and tries to get into a club that doesn't accept foreigners. From there he must prove his worth as a fighter and as a man... -- thats what I gather from the reviews at least.
Evidently, the film does a good job of reaching a large audience while staying true to the spirit of Muay Thai.
And Chok Dee also stars Dida, a french Muay Thai champion who beat Raamon Dekkers twice (although one of these wins wasn't deserved I think) and who trained in Thailand. I guess you will go to see it, could you tell us something about it? Thanks!

Tom Tum Goong has been pushed back because of all the traveling that the filmmakers and Tony Jaa needed to do in support of the North Amerian release of Ong-Bak. I hoping that it will be realeased by April because I will be returning to Thailand to visit some family. How great it would be to see it on a Thai screen.
First of all I think it was a sick movie ... really cool
BUT
Dont you think their were a few problems with this "thai warrior" (just got back from seeing it)... alot of his fancy kicks that got all teh "ooos" and "aaahs" (yes sadly people actually cheered and did that in the theatre... like they didnt know it was going to happen again) most of those fancy kicks like him spinning around in the air would be closer to TKD which apparently all Thai Boxers dislike because of how unrealistic it is.... I think it should be the "Thai guy who fights using fancy kicks and shit, warrior"...
It's a movie and Tony Jaa is a good athlete, so his incorporating fancy kicks and jumps is normal. But among these you can find many direct and straight-forward kicks and elbow techniques. Don't forget that he fought in muay thai too, and then went on studying traditional thai MA. stunt team is quite amazing though, they came up with many good ideas. Of course most people marvel at fancy movements and jumps, but there are many good movents as well, if they cannot appreciate them nevermind.
Also some of the techniques that Bruce Lee performed on the screen would never have been used in a real fight, that has been said by Lee himself and by those who saw him fight.
