  • ISO the Best Muay Thai Instructional DVD

I just started Muay Thai and I'm finding the techniques difficult to remember so I am searching for the best Muay Thai DVD on the market that takes you step by step through the basic but authentic techniques of kicking, punching, kneeing, elbowing, etc. I also would like for it to include a daily regimen like stretching, workout routine, diet, etc. if possible but is not necessary. I keep seeing different views on which videos are good and not good but not definitive. I don't care if it is hard to understand language wise or if it isn't hollywood quality - I just want the best instruction possible so I can learn and train in this amazing sport.

Re: question of who my coach is? I'm not sure of the relevance but he was a Pan American medal holder in Ji Jitsu and also medal holder in boxing.

        Video

I have 2 tapes put out by Ajarn Chai in the 80's. I don't know the name of them right off, but I bought them off of ebay. You might check around there.

Its very rare to have an instructor who competes professionally in both jiu-jitsu and boxing, consider yourself lucky.

Bas Rutten's tapes for muaythai and conditioning would be a fine supplement.

please learn from a teacher, not a video or a book
the teachers may guide you if your stances are incorrect or trainning does not suit you, if you have respect for the art, please follow the rules

What Rules?? Who's Rules?? While learning from an actual instructor in person is THE best way to learn, once a good general understanding of the art in question is developed, a person can learn quite a bit from video (books suck though in regards to techniques and flow).

It all depends on how good the instructor is for one, and then how good the video is put together, and finally, how well the student learns and adapts and picks up on the little details. The majority of my current instruction is from seminars and private training, but when they are not with me, I will pop in a DVD or tape and go to work. It is a good supplement (not replacement). I have also seen one or two instructors who were so bad, a wish I had a video instead...lol.

Respecting the art and following the rules, as you say, are two different things.
