Dear Muay Thai Enthusiast:
What an exciting year for the sport of MuayThai. Many exciting changes are ahead for our athletes, for our training camps and for the face of the ring sport itself. The United States MuayThai Federation (USMF), a non-profit MuayThai sanctioning body has the continued support of the World MuayThai Council (WMC) and the International Federation of MuayThai Amateurs (IFMA). Along with this support from the birthplace of MuayThai, our organization has once again been asked to select a team of American athletes to compete in the WMC-IFMA World Cup to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from August 22-29, 2005.
Originally, the tournament was going to be held every two years with the next tournament to take place next year in Paris, France. However, due to the overwhelming response and success of the last year’s event the decision was made to hold a tournament in 2005. The date of the tournament was originally set in late September, but due to unforeseen scheduling conflict the event was moved up one month.
Additionally, an item of particular interest to active fighters, the World Boxing Council (WBC) has decided to promote the sport of MuayThai. The USMF, in partnership with WBC, has been charged with the task of ranking American MuayThai athletes. One of the determining factors will be participation and success in USMF-sanctioned events, including the WMC-IFMA World Cup.
To be considered for Team America please submit the following:
1. Completed USMF application
2. Photocopy of US passport (must be valid for 6 months beyond return date, as required by law)
3. Recent fight video
4. Copy of a recent physical examination
5. Full body photo in MuayThai fight apparel and a headshot
Athletes will need to actively raise funds; a benchmark figure is $2,500 USD. This is a figure for planning purposes only, but is meant to cover the following:
1. Round trip airfare from your hometown
2. Training, room and board at Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness, Bangkok
3. Hotel accommodations during the tournament
The FourStar Group is once again sponsoring Team America with a generous financial contribution. Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness, San Francisco is offering training to any team member at no cost. Also, Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness, Bangkok is offering discounted training. Last but not least, Fairtex Gear will be the official equipment sponsor for all team members.
In order to maximize your opportunity for success it is recommended that all team members plan on being in Thailand no later than August 15th in order to acclimate to the weather and finish training for the tournament.
Once the selection process is complete a representative of USMF will ONLY contact applicants who have been chosen for the team. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2005.
GO TEAM AMERICA!
Sincerely,
Anthony Lin
