  • Training floors

    Hello all.
I've been askin' around about gyms and one helpful fellow mentioned something very interesting which may very well make my decision on which gym to join.

I have two gyms in mind and one has a hardwood floor and the other a matted/canvased floor. I was leaning toward the gym with the hardwood floor but now I'm worried that jumping and moving around on that type of surface will really hurt my feet/soles and affect my overall training.

What do you people think, should I be concerned?

    Thanks all!

    yes and no

i have 2 wrecked feet/ankles from training for years on a wood floor(barefoot) doing plyometrics, jumping/flying kicks running aroud the rooom ect. so for that type of m.a. training then you definately need a matted classroom but in boxing and kickboxing training the only jumping you'll presumeably be doing is plyometrics and jumping rope so for jumping rope you can bring your own portable mat but for plyometric work I'd be concearned with shock absorbition(if your trianer has a brian he'll let you skip rope and do plyometric work in your running shoes.) btw I know some thai fighters skip rope/trian the ol' school style on a cement floor ect. but were thinking of longevity here people. in conclusion if the plyo doesn't bother you/your wearing good running shoes then don't worry, but you'd be wise to actually consult a doc on this one.
