other styles vs. Thai kickboxing/ taking lessons

I went to a local pro match that had guys wearing boxing gloves and foot pads. They were not throwing any leg kicks, or knees, and they were all wearing pants. Do you know what style this would be? Would this be considered American Kickboxing? Is there such a thing? I e-mailed the promotions place and they said they also have kickboxing classes behind the place where they hold fights. Would this be a good place to go? Can someone give me some good advice?

It was cool to see some live fighting, but it was really different than what I expected. What other styles of kickboxing are there besides Muay Thai?
