  • Eye Blinking

Sorry for the newbie(to MT) post...I was just wondering how can i get rid of this blinking problem when I spar...It seems everytime i do some really beginner light sparring I tend to blink when a punch comes toward my face....Could it be fear of getting hit in the face? Is this normal? I've been told to just keep sparring and it will go away...Are there any exercises that i can practice at home to help me condition my eyes not to flinch? Thanks in advance for your advice!

In general, experience I would say. Practice in a controlled environment with emphasis on timing and good mechanics until you are comfortable, and then break the comfort. Repeat the process.

        Blinking

Stand in front of a heavy bag with your hands behind you, leaning slightly forward. Push the bag out gently with your foot, and let it swing back and touch your forehead.

i used to have the same problem with blinking, and not keeping my hands up
keep sparring and it will go away when your confidence builds up
getting hit in the head a few times because your eyes are closed will speed up the process

nobody likes seeing a punch coming towards them
but getting hit by a punch is worse
keeping your eyes open will help you stop getting hit
          just keep persisting

tap lightly around your eyes, the and rub around the bottom part of your eye socket with your eyes open with your knuckles, lightly...this helps relax your eyes.

if you want a more permenant solution...you can do what the spartans did. I'll just say this much...it involves a long willow branch, or similar type whip like stick.

actually, the spartans would of checked the guy if he blinked when punched at the moment he could open his eyes (how many days/weeks old are they when this happens?), and if he did he was not fit to be a spartan, and they would'a put him on a mountain side to die. Like they did with all manner of babies with problems.

Just kidding about the eye blinking part, but the baby deficiency thing is quite true.
