no leg kicks, no punches...no knees, no elbows...nothing?
Damn, dude...why don't they just handcuff your arms behind your back?!
That's ridiculous...my first response would be to cut kick (illegal, but why the **** not, the first time they threw anything spinny or flashy. and hard enough so they wouldn't stand back up.)

      intrigued... whats a cut kick?
quite like the idea of fouling once but doing so hard enough to stop them kicking later on but the judge may get suspicious if you do that in every spar you enter

That doesn't actually sound like a karate tournament but more a taekwondo tournament. Those of us who do karate are more reasonable to know that a back spinning heal kick doesn't do much in the street and so we try to stay away from it in the tournaments. The tournament you entered was a taekwondo one. I recognise the rules and the kicks you identified.

Remember karate-do Translates to (Japanese to English) 'The way of the empty hand' and Taekwondo means (Korean to english) 'Way of the hand and foot'

So yeah that was a taekwondo tournament and don't be too phased as to how to defend against a jumping spinning heal kick because chances are when your in the street and someone tries that, they leave themselves too vaunerable to attacks afterwards.

Those tournaments are more for agility and speed than for strength and power so a Muay Thai fighter isn't really going to shine in a tournament like that.
