  • Tips for beginner Kickboxer

hey guys i recently started Kickboxing (my second lesson), i see the experinced KBs shadow boxing and see there punching technique but i dont feel my technique is right... are there any tips youse could give me as when i go into 1 on 1 training i always get punched the hell out of me in my ribs, gut and so on. And when the opponent is blocking where could i hit to score some damage?

ive been doing gym for 5 months and pushups before that for 4 years i am 17 years old and i was wandering also that does punching with weights increase power? i seen people doing KB for 4 years and seen them punching with 1.5 - 2 kg dumbells and i can do 8kg ones. Would training this way give your punch an extra 8kg force of power into the opponent?

if you need to add strenght to your punches, i'd suggest weight lifting. If you need to add more techniques to try and get you ahead of the other guys, that would mean study more and train more and spar more.

I really wouldnt shadow box, or box, or hit the heavybag with weights in your hand over one pound... and then ... I would just use a 16 oz glove.. a boxing glove.. isnt 16 oz's one pound exactly?

Actually I would never do this, look through the boxing section as this is asked frequently and there are alot of great posts on the subject which do a far better job of explaining why its bad than I ever could.

Although I'm sure in this thread some of the nice people might tell you why its bad here.

Oh and the fastest way to increase your punching power, if you dont alreayd know this after two classes... Its all in the hips... Its all in the hips.. lol.

      Good luck with kickboxing.

Weight training is perfect for building strength. Do this one or two times a week if you can

        Bench Press 10 Reps
        Decline Press ups 10 Reps
        Bench Press 8 Reps
        Decline Press ups 10 reps
        Bench Press 6 Reps
        Decline Press Ups 10
Dont change weight on the bar.

That really ripped me up. Also if you can add flyes for your chest. Triceps, hips, core, shoulders, pecs, legs all go into punching.

Learn to keep your hands up. Stand in front of a mirror and throw punchs and make sure you dont drop your hands or put them out of place.

          Spar more.

Shadow box in front of a mirror if you feel that ur techniques aren't perfect. Most of time lack of power in punches isn't because of lack of muscle or whateva, just incorrect techniques and flow.
