  • Hip Snap

Hey guys......my first time to the forums
    Hows it going!
Ive been doing kyokushin for about 1 and a half years now, and starting to lose interest due to not liking kata, linework basics etc.
Im thinking about starting muay thai.
Was just wondering if you guys use the same hip snap us karate boys use, when you snap your hip the opposite way of your punch at the very end.
And also how long do you rekon it will take me to get used to punching to the head?

    Thanks

Probably as long as it takes someone to punch you in the head once.

No MT doesnt snap the hip in the opposite direction.
The driving action of the hips is what gives MT its power. Snapping back only reduces your power.
In a straight right, you want to raise your rt heel of the floor and fully rotate your hips, driving through the target .You pull your fist back after your arm and hip has reached its full extension.

Ummm....I dont think snapping yur hip back creates less power......its just a different technique for punching to the body. It creates a bigger jolt than a normal hips through the target movement and puts the opponents off balance more. We still raise our heels, and rotate the hips through but at the very last second when you twist your wrist over, we also snap our hip back the slightest bit, try it....it seems real unnatural at first: my sensei says it takes about 10 years to master

Does anyone use this technique in MT?
Maybe you have to plant your feet too much to do this?

          Cheers

what's a jolt? hehe sounds interesting but i'm kind of confused about it, how does a backward motion add to power or impact?

              Hmmm its hard to explain........
I only just started using it in sparring and i definatly cant do it right.
To my understand its like a roll of the hips and a slight snap at the very end.
I guess a person with more than 3 years Kyokushin training could explain it alot better
But thanks yall answered my question; MT dont use it

Learning to punch someone in the head takes one day.
Learning to not close your eyes, turn your head away, and back away when a punch is coming at your head takes a lot longer...

I know exactly what you're talking about. I did trditional TKD and Karate for a long time before I started MT.
Its a theory which is touted by many traditional styles.
My personal experience has taught me that its just not true.
