my school does, but unless you have a fight coming up, why? itr only helps with cuts..a concussion occurs when the brain bounces around inside the skull...that happens whenevr you get hit..the padding doesn't do anything but keep cuts down. u.s.a. boxing was thinking and the olympic commission as well of eliminating the headgear from the games

I wear top ten headgear now all the time after a shattered eye socket. I used to never were headgear when sparring while training for fights. I did this for about three years. Had about 12 fights no headgear never really hurt.
While sparring one day light with one my regular partners a punch landed just right not even hard and left me with a shattered eye socket that required three seperate surgeries over a year to get my vision back.

Of course this a worst case scenario but it stopped me from competing for almost 2 years. Even if going light its real easy for someone to get hit good and then return harder and pick it up. Why take the chance.

    Is this a trick question?

Are you seriously asking me what muay thai is? I'm gonna asume, against my better judgement that you are serious.

    Muay thai is thaiboxing.

Search youtube for clips of muay thai training and fights.

And we don't use it in the one I train shootfighting in now when we spar standup.

I think the headgear provides a false sense of security, it doesn't protect the brain from the blows you get, it only protect against superficial(is that the word) damages, such as bruising and cuts.
    My thoughts exactly. Cheers.

If your a pro fighter(ie earning a living from fighting) then you should always wear a headguard imho, this is to stop headbuts causing cuts more that to prevent head trauma.

I dont belive in "gym wars" boxers sometimes get more damage done in the gym than in the ring, where is the sense in that?.

personally i think the full frontal cover head gaurds take the pressure out of sparring too much. the standard boxing head guard is fine though.
