  • weight training for kickboxing

I'm looking to start a serious weight training regimen for kickboxing and I've read I should be doing more olympic-style, esplosive lifts, but I don't really know where to start. This is what my training schedule looks like:

Sunday- skill training/ strength training/ plyometrics/ core training
    Monday- skill training/ anaerobic conditioning
    Tuesday- skill training/ core training
    Wednesday- skill training/ anaerobic conditioning
Thursday- skill training/ strength training/ plyometrics/ core training
    Friday- skill training/ anaerobic conditioning
    Saturday- rest

If anyone could offer up some suggestions or examples of a good routine, I would greatly appreciate it.

Do HIT training, it fits perfectly into a good kickboxing training schedule.

When you say anaerobic, did you actually mean aerobic? Anaerobic is training without the use of oxygen (like weightlifting) while aerobic is in the presence of oxygen (running, skipping). If anaerobic is all you are doing, I would definatley suggest getting some roadwork in too. I know that's not weight training like you were asking, but it's super important.

I thought anaerobic refered more to interval style training. What I do is run for 25 minutes (jog 1 mile, sprint 1 min/ rest 1 min 4x, cool-down 1/2 mile) or jump rope for 20 minutes (6 x 3 minute rounds).

Anaerobic includes events such as sprinting and other events that are short and high intensity. These types of exercises utilize stored energy, fat, to maintain effort levels while aerobic activities use oxygen.

I forgot to mention... If you want a serious anaerobic exercise, go to a track and sprint the straight-a-ways and walk the curves. Do this 2-3 times and you'll be smoked.
