  • left, right (jab, power) punching

i stress im a beginner at TKD.

in a 1-2 punch ---when u punch first (you do a left jab), and then u power with the right turning ur hip, rotating ur back (right) foot.

    how bout a 4 punch combo (left,right,left,right)
after the right punch (1-2)...do u twist ur hip back to the original starting place for the 2nd left jab)? what about ur back foot - does it go to the starting position (ie. normal stance, before the left jab)

ive foudn trying to do this really fast...that i only get hip rotation in a 1-2...but if im asked to do a 4 or 6 hit combo...then im only using my shoulders, and very little hip rotation.

Ha ha... i just realsied i'd never noticed that. Just went to check and found out that I'm not good at the hip rotation after the second punch. You should be going back into the normal guard very briefly after the second punch, youre going to be turning slightly sideways again on the 3rd punch so you must have gone through the normal position to get there (i think).

Hip rotation makes an enormous difference. Sadly its something i keep forgetting. Its the difference between hitting hard and hitting very hard so i tend to forget it. Trying to improve. I intend to go and spend a while standing in front of a punchbag hitting left-right-left-right continually just trying to get the foot rotation working again. You may find the same helps you.

Oddly when i started i did the footwork ok because it was the only way i was hitting hard. But at some point i've lost it
