      Cherry Mart! Memories!

Phraew (the manager) is a nice lady. There are a couple of other guesthouse-type places in the area, all within a five minute walk of Lanna. If you decide to go, spend the first couple nights at a nearby hotel (I personally like Holiday Garden on Huay Kaew road about $20 a night (at the time of year I went), and ask the other fighters at the camp where everyone is staying.

I can confirm what Sportmuaythai said about renting rooms - $100 a month will get you a pretty nice place.

About buying property in Thailand - check what the law currently is. Someone told me years ago that foreigners couldn't buy property themselves - they needed a local partner to buy. I'm not sure if that is true anymore though.

        Buying property in Thailand

My ultimate advice would be to engage the services of a Thai lawyer.

aseepish- Sounds like you liked the Cherry Mart apartments, but are recommending me to not stay there.

I looked at muaythailand for info on rooms, and it seemed to say that cherry mart is where most stay because of it being close and good.

I dont know how much it would cost per month to stay there, I emailed Lanna to ask for rates.

I enjoyed my stay at the Cherry Mart guesthouse but it is not for everybody (I found it a bit noisy, and the air-conditioner not terribly efficient, as in it didn't work that well, but consumed a LOT of electricity - which you pay for above and beyond the basic cost of your room). If you want access to a kitchen for example, or in-room internet access, there are other nearby guesthouses. The Cherry Mart room might be perfect for you, but I was just saying that there are other options - conditions change. Of course, for access to Lanna, nothing beats the Cherry Mart rooms!

I did not know that you had to pay extra for electricity and other ammenities. I would be very interested in the other options/guesthouses that are close to the camp.

Is there any websites that you know of, or is it more like when you get to Lanna they tell you all the options?

Thanks again for all the help

                micah323,

My advice to you would be to simply check it out when you get here. You know your tastes better then we can. The Cherry Mart, or the Mansion are fine places to stay a week while you check out your options. I would budget for 4000B a month after all your expenses (electricity and water) at these locations. There are many threads here that discuss costs in Chiang Mai that you might find helpful.

                Best of luck.

Cheap rooms can be found very close to Chay-yai gym, about 60 US per month. There is a pick up service from guest houses in the city (gym 10 mins out of city away from traffic). The training is first class.
