  • I want to be Muay Thai guy

Right now I study a system that incorporates BJJ, Muay Thai, Akidio and various other bits and pieces. It's not a sporting system but a close quarters combat street-fighting/self defense system. What I'm finding is that I'm not really interested in learning how to poke someone in the eye and that I really like the Muay Thai components. I also think they're the most useful in a real life situation.

My question is this...what is the learning curve for someone new to the sport? Assuming someone trains 2 - 3 times a week and works hard how long would it take to become semi-proficient?

    PS.

I am also not exactly built all long and lean like a traditional Muay Thai fighter...I'm a little stocky and have short legs, kinda like a wiener dog. But I have good flexibility and can kick at head level.

How much of a factor would this be in my success at Muay Thai?

Excuse me please,How old are you?
What is your goal for practicing Muaythai?
If you are so young,You would like to be a professional boxer, you have to be trainned by trainner everyday
if you just would like to know how it is ,you may be trainned till you know all strategy of Muaythai, that is enough for you

Your success in muay thai is proportional to how hard you work and how often you get good sparring; not too much contact too soon, but enough to keep you honest.

If you're stocky, you're probably going to be a better puncher/infighter than a long-range kicker.
