  • Work out tips

I just started taking muay thai classes about two monthes ago. I am slowly getting the techniques but I was hoping that someone could give me some tips on stretches/fitness exercises that I can do on the side for strength and conditioning. I like lifting weights too so I was hoping that I could possibly do some exercises that would benefit my muay thai training as well.

    Thanks

Plyometric exercises like plyometric push ups where you clap your hands at the top of the push. Explosive power's (and endurance) more important in Muay Thai than ordinary weight lifting.

Plyometrics are very good for you, actually anything that promotes muscle endurance is really what you are after. However this all depends on how much money you have for exercise equipment or instruction, the space in your home should you wish to train there, or the availablility of your club during the day, any injuries you may carry etc etc.

You mentioned you like to lift weights. My recommendation is to look into kettlebell training. There's a ton of stuff on the Net (not all good) and you will get fitter as well as stronger without all the big bulky muscles. However if that is what you want kettlebells can help you there as well.

You can train at home with minimal space, develop explosiveness in your hips which crosses over into MT techniques, increase flexibility and gain a functional strength.

        Have a look into it.
