I’m kind of getting sick of people asking “am I to old for Muay Thai, take over the world, fight evil, etc…” For the record, you will get in better shape training as apposed to not training. If you are out of shape now you will suck wind for a while but you won’t die- although I would have a lot of respect for a person that trained themselves to death. Will you be able to fight one day? If you are good enough that your trainer is not embarrassed to link his/her name to you in a public match, yes, you can fight one day- there is no limit to the amount of people that would like to kick you in the head or knee you till you puke. Are you too old? Who cares? I worked as a personal trainer for four years and the main point I tried to drive home was if you train intelligently, don’t do things that put you at great risk for unreasonable injury, and listen to your body, you will not look back in ten years and think, “man, I wasted all that time getting in shape and learning new skills.” Age and God given ability are always going to be limiting factors. Take what you have and work with it. I know for a fact that I will never be the best at my school, let alone the state of Maryland, but I also know if I train well I’ll be better than a vast majority of my peers that are content to sell themselves short and watch life go by.

All you need is love........and a sharp blade.....a hardwood flat stick......Oh, oh, oh and a Paraordinance lda 14.45 loaded with 230 grain hydra shocks, ranger SXT's or golden sabres
People asking if they are to "old" to do MT doesn't bother me at all. I don't mind explaining that the benefits out weight the risks, and training can be tailored to the individual depending on their health and physical ability.
The response that I find a little annoying is the; "Well, I want to get into shape before I start taking classes." If you're serious about wanting to train, use the training to get yourself into shape. You'll be that much farther ahead, and probably in better shape then you would have been if you did something else first. If you're embarased what others more advanced then you might think, understand, their going to give you props for getting out there and doing it...even if you're sucking wind at first.
Looking out for, and helping each other in the group is what it's all about.

You got too many elbows in the head my friend. You're too old for any more Muay Thai.
LOL. I think you may be right about the elbow thing, B. Really, I was doing a little EMO ranting. Tom and William summed things up much better that I did. The majority of people that take the time to sign up for the board and post a should I/ can I thread have already shown enough interest that there should be no reason not to give it a go.
