Buying a freestanding punch bag

it needs to be that thick I assume to absorb the impact?! I wil do some phone book searching, i know a couple of motorsport engineers but I'm assumin that's not quite right lol!

Yea obv we're just tryina gauge from the pic lol, I'm thinkin if they get bk to me with prices for shipping etc and I acn work an approx of the customs + vat myself it may be worth it - the ONLY reservation I have about that one is the narrow footprint, in terms of wher ethe standing leg will be when throwing a kick.

I'd just use the whole thing for boxing drills, and then seperately for kicking, meaning I would just throw a few kicks on each leg etc, no integration with punch / combos... Therefore, the only issue is the stand getting in the way, I don't mind if it moves a little itll be good to have to readjust or I could put it in the middle of the room and kick it 5 times one way and then kick it back wit the other leg haha. And I'm sure if I ghet some sandbags to drape acros the supports + use weights then it wud hopefully be fairly sturdy.. :\ lol. I can't tell how far to the side the supports are, it maybe that I need to stand to one side (eg place the standing foot just inside a strut) or slightly off centre. shame i can't know until I actually have it built in front of me!

Not unless you want a motorised punchbag frame you can drive down the street lolol.

yeah that american one looks ok, would be better to see in real life.

Maybe you can email them for the dimensions of it before you buy it. Might be worth asking before you find out its 3 foot wide or some crap.

When you kick the punch bag will swing, if it goes past the feet the whole frame can tip unless you use alot of weight to pin it down.

Hi, just thought I'd update you as I'm still seaching lol, with little new ideas...

I think I'm going to go for this one by Title boxing, as it is pretty much the same as the stands on offer around the Internet, but seems a little sturdier and thicker... ( http://store.titleboxing.com/title-p...-speedbag.html )

I'm still however waiting a decent reply from their team. Only thing I'm worried about is the small footprint, so what dyou think of the viability of a halfway measure between what you suggested - in short I buy that stand, and if it wobbles a little when I kick it (or when it starts), I am going to buy some super thick wood as you mentioned, and make a "covering" slat to cover the footprint of the existing stand?! That way I can effectively enlarge the footprint, without needing to muhc expertise, a simple wide base triangle covering the current feet or somethign as such lol... I'm finding it hard to explain but the idea is racing away in my head.... lol.

I think you might get away with that bag. Hope the feet dont get in your way when you are kicking. Dont know until you get it though. looks solid enough in the photo though.

It wont tip if you can weigh it down enough, if it does tip at all, so you shouldnt need to add to the frame. Just adding to the frame may get in the way of your feet, i cant tell that from a photo though.

looks much like the sturdie rone from america, dont know how i found it lol, took a lot of link trawling. same thick metal desig, high reaching support struts, footprint looks bout the same width as the USA one...

Thats the same as the american one but the pic is taken from behind. looks like it should be ok. I think its the same one anyway, certainly looks like it.
