Universal also has a Richmond gym. Dave Fesser is a great trainer, but he might only be teaching at the downtown location.

Trevor Clarkson is another top-notch instructor.

I'm not sure if he's teaching Muay Thai, but JKD/Jun Fan kickboxing. If that's up your alley, definitely check his school out!

Creative Fighters Guild | Richmond | Brazilian Jiu Jitsu | Jeet Kune Do | Kali | Eskrima

I did my JKD training under two of his instructors at CFG East Van. Sadly that club disbanded about ten years ago.

Songlith Singthong has a Muay Thai gym on Hastings. Not sure exactly where. That's Vancouver instead of Richmond, but I just noticed you listed that as an option as well.

              Muay Thai Kai Singthong

It's Hastings near Clark Drive, East Vancouver. It's a bit of a trip from Richmond.

I checked it out a few weeks ago. I have to say it is one of the best Muay Thai gyms in Van. The head trainer is from Thailand. He was a local title holder there. They have Wes Jaya who is also a champ I believe...recently beat some guy from Toronto I think....?

Of course a gym in Hastings doesn't sound too pleasant right? You'd imagine a run-down little gym ...all torn up. Well that's exactly what it was like. The training was great though. In my opinion, the gym sorta had a Rocky-Esque feeling to it. Cracked Concrete and the stentch of sweat....THey have a ring there, but unfortunately they were renovating it. They had around, 8 heavy bags, some thai pads and other gear. The head Kru Singthong was currently in Thailand and will not return until the 2nd of may. You guys should definately check this gym out. It's all pure muay thai and they train really hard.

When I was there, I was put in the beginners class (duh).. they taught me basics. Various ways to check kicks, punches (Jab, Hook, Uppercut), and I got the chance to clinch and learn some neat tricks. Also a lot of reps on the heavy bag doing Knees.

PM me if you want to know the prices. ...i plan on going there when the Head instructor comes back from Thailand

                  Cracked concrete floors - that's authentic Thai-style!

I'm also thinking of checking that place out. I used to train in East Van - at a community centre near the PNE, and another near Boundary Rd.

Tigerstyle - do you happen to know which gym in Thailand the head instructor is affiliated with (if any?).

lol, i meant the concrete walls....were cracked and chipped..the flooring is sorta...like ...soft...i really can't explain but it was somewhat soft.. Cracked Concrete Flooring would be brutal in the winter time...lol.....i'd freeze!!!

When I go to the gym in May I will post back and update you.

When I was there...I talked to Wes Jaya, and he said that Universal MMA wanted him to teach and instruct there. That MUST say something about Singthong gym

ALSO, the pro/fighter class must be brutally intense. I wouldn't doubt it. lol

Concrete floors might be a bit chilly. I keep forgetting that Thailand and Canada have different climates.

No, that's not true. I was reminded of that fact every single day this past winter.

I was at Lanna in Chiang Mai for two months.

I might check out Singthong gym this summer. Right now I'm a bit preoccupied with papers.
