  • muay thai equipment

    Hello All,

I am going to start taking muay thai classes soon and I was hoping to find out a little bit about the type of equipment that is generally used in training.

What do you guys recommend for someone getting started with muay thai?

Thank you! You just saved me hours of research. Much obliged. I can't wait to get into the sport, I'm very excited about it.

If you are just starting out I would keep it real nice and simple all you really need are some hand wraps, a good pair of bag gloves and anther set of boxing gloves say about 12oz-18oz. Personally that is all we make new people purchase when joining. All the other things the gym should supply you with such as jump ropes, head gear, shin pads (u may want your own for sanitary reasons) etc etc.....

Don't go out spending all your money on gear.....take that extra time and use it in the gym training. I personally think fairtex has the best gear around but to each his own there are many sites online to buy gear so definatly shop around if you can.

Hey dont buy Jack until you decide Muay Thai is for you as already said.... wraps, short, t -shirt and gum shield is all you need to start off....

When you decide its for you invest in your own gear...I like twins stuff...but it does cost..try and get somebody who is returning from Siam to get it over there for you as it is much cheaper...if hes a friend he will!!

Ghosts list is bang on,as a instructor myself i advise the new student to purchase shorts, wraps, 12 oz gloves and shins first off,and to buy them off me would be great(not compulsary),support your instructor and gym rather than a e bayer!.
