    YouTube - Muaythai MuayKorat

Very nice old footage of Muay Korat bare knuckle training. Very interesting it makes me wonder about how much has been lost of the original training of these arts and replaced by modern nonsense.
I liked the two kids trading punches, that was wild!

vincent giordano is the only foreigner trained i believe in muay korat and has been working extensively on the history and records, sent this to me right now:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Muay Korat is a tremendous bare knuckle system, which has been maintained by a small solid cadre of teachers who pass on the system and continue to propagate it. The system was born in a fertile area for fighters(korat) which still to this day produces top notch ring muay thai fighters and trainers. In korat, we see a simple direct system that can be brought into play relatively quickly, the forward aggression and many tactics or the strategies of tactics can be seen carried over and developed on in modern ring muay thai. Muay Korat in the bare knuckle days took on many challenge matches from other systems and styles, and its only rival was muay chaiya. You can see that many styles such muay chaiya couldnt deal with its explosive tactics and some punches like the korat buffalo punch had to be trained and implemented into the muay chaiya arsenal in order to deal with that specific korat tactic , muay korat needed to change nothing but continue developing to deal with any of the challenges or challengers during its heyday. But muay korat also under the late kru bua was taught to the military directly by him and many of the remaining teachers are usually military men of that period. Kru Bua actually fought bare knuckle and was an immensely respected fighter and teacher. So although its an older form of fighting it is a solid system to learn minus any politics or nonsense we see today in other thai systems. There is also accurate written records of history, development and tactics along with superb footage of training and sparring as clear, concise documentation of it."

Hey fire cobra, you know whats cool about it, check out those little kids, they are good, they are using tactics and not looking herky jerky or trying to pose in positions that dont translate or work. in those old styles as vincent explained to me there were alot of moves taught as in a full martial arts but you also had the real side meaning fighting were you stripped it to what works and drilled it over and over to fight. also it is said some of the tactics from that style actually made it into muay thai then developed from there and from those kids you can see that and they did alot of jab cross hook work in training. I am very interested in this now myself! supposedly all the korat guys are super cool as well.....very inspiring.

great footage. where did it come from and does that person have more of it. guys looked pretty tough. its good to know that they are still a great group and are working to keep the art alive in its true form. really says something about their structure as a whole and their characters individually.

                  Hi,
Got this from Vincent this morning

" The footage is part of a film made by the esso company in thailand. I was told today the two young boys fighting in the film are still alive and I hope to see them on my next visit to thailand when i go back in about a month or so. The footage on the internet is truncated, there is more footage than that, very well shot and edited of kru bua teaching the young cadets. Some thai documentaries as well as documentaries made in other countries have used the footage by never identified the style or the teacher(or one would have to understand thai to recognize who the teacher and style was). "

Thank you for letting us know George.

I agree, that's great to know they are still here.
Who knows maybe they learned the whole system (it sure looks like they did!)
and can still teach or have had students.

I agree with firecobra it's good to see a system without any infighting and politics, that's the way it should be and it should be an example for others who do the exact opposite.

I think most of the systems and teachers seem to be nice and relatively quiet since we hardly hear anything about them. So for the most part here it seems you can learn in peace once you find the appropriate teacher and system you are looking for. chaiya was very peaceful for a long time or so i was told by alot of people who trained in it for many, many years.

I heard the same thing about Chaiya. Circumstances led to a clash of egos and subsequently to claims without a real foundation, and it got out of hand. In the end it gives a bad image of the system, I cannot help thinking about wing chun and all that there's been around it.
Learn in peace with the right teacher and stay out of the nonsense, very true.

so i was watching some of my dvds the other day and one was a documentary on old muay. and who would have guessed but i have this footage on that dvd. there is alot more to it than what is shown. also at the end the go over some techniques of the system broken down into fists elbows knees feet defense. it really is a good documentary only it is in thai so i have no idea what is being said. thought i would put this up.
