  • Village of the keris

This dvd is packed with information on the Thai keris and has tons of
beautiful pictures of blades and sheaths, which are used along the knife.
It's rare material, I had never heard of this not even when in Thailand so it's
a good opportunity to know more about it and in a neutral light.
There is a good deal of historical, cultural and technical info related to the
kriss and to its sinuous blade and some nice pictures of the regional types and
variations of the blade. The keris is also a spiritual object and it was amazing to
see to what extent it has been respected and valued by along the various communities.

The master is nice and shows his sytem in detail (foorwork, movements, usage),
the overall picture I had is one of a nice and friendly community that is open
to sharing its culture and ways without ego and commerce messing with the
    true values of the art.

I think it has to be viewed more than once because of the tremendous amount
of info there is, and quotes from books sometimes appear so you can take the
    learning experience further.

      Hey tee sok
thanks for the review. looking forward to getting mine. we had some nice threads on the thai and burmese weapons and this sort of talks along those lines because this type of old making of the weapons still sort of exists down in the south and we dont see much from down there.

That's cool, waiting for your opinion on it.

I agree, the situation is similar to the Thai and Burmese weapons one.

          I enjoyed it tremendously.

It ties in the thai material so well and moves from there. I agree with Tee Sok there is an overwhleming amount of material on the dvd.

its clearly about something we rarely see covered with this amount of depth.

finally watched mine-its very well done, overview of thai material into the southern styles is very good and it shows there is more to it than just chaiya as the be and end all.

it had to wait to get mine because the two web stores just opened recently

A nice documentary on Malay Keris, I think it's quite complete with the history, beliefs and making of and it's a nice following to the Village of the Keris:

                  Discovery - Keris 1/3 - YouTube

                  Discovery - Keris 2/3 - YouTube
