  • in shape for muay thai

so why does everybody say that muay thai will get you in really good shape...do you have to do calestincs in class or something? or do they mean you will want to get in better shape outside of class....what exactly do you do in class thats going to get you in such great shape

sorry if this sounds like im being a smart ass, i really do want to know

A decent Muay Thai class should have you stacking round after round of kicks, knees, clinch-work, etc... The class itself is an insane workout. You get what you put into it. If you want a good workout, work hard. It's that simple.

This answer should be self-evident if you walk into a good school.
do you have to do calestincs in class or something?
Yes. Typically, non-fighters will do 15 minutes of jump rope and shadow boxing before working out. For fighters, man where do i start? Think of doing 15 rounds of sparring against fresh guys in each round. But instead of a 30 second or one minute rest between the rounds, you get to do 30 pushups, 50 squats and 50 high knees.

      Yes.

Hard to explain because the workouts vary quite a bit. The short answer is: WORK!

4-6 hours of cardio per day with some anaerobic stuff thrown into the mix is what you would expect to do in serious Muay Thai training.

Thats pretty hardcore, I assume this is only for Pro's? not beginners.

I wish I had that amount of spare time to commit to training. As it is I only train 3 times a week doing Street MA for 2 hours and I generally get home, JUST have enough time to eat dinner before going to bed then getting up for work! I plan to train MT 2 nights a week for 2 hours starting in about 3 weeks ... I hope I can keep UP!

                  going solo

you don't have to go to the gym to train

you can do light training on off days

get a bag in your garage

There is always time for Muay Thai . I have school (A Levels so loads of revising) but I manage to fit in 15 hours a week, Four Normal Lessons lasting One Hour, then REAL training (Ring Work, Bag Work, Skipping, Loads of crazy stuff for Muscle Build Up and Stamina, Running, Paired Work, Sparring, Techniques, there is no time to stop) Also I fit in a 1 hour run every morning, with 30 min warm up.
There is always time to train no matter how busy you are, when I finish A Levels, I will start real Training I mean like 15 hour days, some people from our club already do that, and I will start as well, but it looks feckin' hard
Also anyone can take up Muay Thai, it not just for the pro's, because to become a pro you have to be a novice, and nobody is automaticly a pro

I Have a job, girlfriend and I dont live at home. So i have to cook and do other stuff around my house. Then there is friends etc.

15 hours is out of the question . I think I could manage hours a week but have next to no time for relaxing .. and I think I would be too tired once I got home and Id just have to crash.

This kinda training is unrealistic for most people, but I am happy to just be a novice. I suppose part of training could be other activities I do to stay in shap .. EG soccer.

P.S Running is bad for your ankles/legs .. you should take up swimming or something that wont have long term effects.
