  • Great Maartial Arts Movies

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - for me it is worth it just for the 7 seconds of krabi-krabong

KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE - the parody of Bruce Lee (A Fistful of Yen) at the end is hilarious, and the guy is a pretty good martial artist to boot

THE WARRIOR WITHIN - very hard to find documentary (sort of) about Bruce Lee's philosophies with many great masters demonstrating and talking about their arts

    hello,

i agree with your choices. i can really go on and on, but i will keep it brief for now.

of course, ENTER THE DRAGON, but out of all of Bruce Lee's movies, RETURN OF THE DRAGON aka THE WAY OF THE DRAGON is my favorite.

FIST OF LEGEND with Jet Li, remake of Bruce Lee's THE CHINESE CONNECTION

i prefer UNBEATABLE DRAGON aka INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN over FIVE DEADLY VENOMS. both star the 5 venoms gang.

old school Shaw Brothers movie, SHAOLIN CHALLENGES NINJA starring Gordon "Master Killer" Liu. he's chinese and marries japanese wife and inadvertently insults JMA. she goes back to japan and her sensei sends 7 JMA experts to challenge him.

of course, MASTER KILLER aka SHAOLIN 36TH CHAMBER is also good.

RAPID FIRE - brandon lee. such a tragedy. this movie showed what things could have come from him.

    many, many more.

a new movie coming out that should be good called Kill Bill with David Carridine who is a Martial Artist himself, I thinhk he studies 9 palms praying mantis. It sounds awesome. Its directed by Quintin Tarrantino

                films to see

I will make the obligatory Japanese additions:
(here I am not making the distinction between samurai films - which may have less action than most kung-fu movies in general)

Sword of Doom (Jp. title unknown) starring Nakadai Tatsuya and Mifune Toshiro - as the title suggests, a "dark" film

Harakiri (Jp. title Seppuku) also starring Nakadai Tatsuya - slow for the first 2/3rds, but the story is great, and the film won some Cann film festival award.

And, needless to say, Black Belt Jones starring Jim Kelly

I will also add that while Steven Segal has gone rather pear-shaped and his recent movies have disappointed many, I think that "Above the Law" was the first major break from the Norris and Van Damme genre of less than realistic martail arts movies and deserves recognition.

ps-no one mentioned Sharky's Machine, where Guru Dan cuts off a couple of Burt Reynolds' figures with a butterfly knife?

Whats the name of that movie, it involves these like samurai and christopher Lambert, I have a feeling its called the hunter or something, and Lambert seeks training from this like grandmaster guy. I think near the start it has this jappanese guy with this samurai sword on a train. I really want to know the name of it if somebody knows, So I can watch it.

                  Thanks
                  Scott

                    Scott Kano,

that would be THE HUNTED which also starred john lone and joan chen. IIRC the gm who lambert's character went to is tak kubota. good soundtrack music by KODO with the taiko drums.

                    ----------------------

speaking of Guro Inosanto, check out THE KILLER ELITE dir'd by sam peckinpah, starred james caan, robert duvall, bo hopkins, and mako.

a movie which featured Guro I more prominently was i believe titled THE CHINESE STUNTMAN which starred bruce li. good fight scene at the end.

Is THE HUNTED a good movie, or is it akin to Highlander 2-4 (read cheesy weak-kneed knockoffs/sequels)???
