Belts

How many of you kickboxers take part on the "belt-tests". Is it how common to do it?
and Why do/why not to do it?

Belts are an abstruse topic. My gym has them, but they aren't limited to a muay thai curriculum. There are 7 levels, and it takes a minimum of 5 years to obtain the top. The length of testing in between varies by level. The tests are scheduled closer in the begining, and further at the end. I didn't mind doing them, although they weren't a priority.

THere are belts in kickboxing, didn't know that one. Well none in Muay Thai.
