I began practicing muay thai when I was 18, after having tried a few other styles. PFS jeet kune do, judo, kyokushinkai karate, capoeira, krav maga.. that's it I think. I was just trying different martial arts to see which one was best suited for me and my needs, and I have found that muay thai is the one that I get the most joy from practicing.

Honestly I don't really care much about what is best for self defence or which style is more bad ass, I train for the fun of it.

i trained in TKD from the age of 5 - 11, also fitted in ju jitsu lessons inbetween TKD, gained my black belt at 11 in TKD then packed it in (the most silliest thing i think i've ever done, but i was young and had that mindframe your a black belt now theres nothing else to do i've finished etc...)

im now 21 and recently took up muay thai, it was a choice between wing chun kung fu and muay thai, after watching contender asia it swung my decision to muay thai, the respect that each fighter has for each other within the sport is just amazing, after completing my 3 years at university im hoping to travel to thailand for abit, saving up all the money i can now for 3 years time

I didn't know anyone who could teach Muay Thai until I met my martial arts instructor last year. I grew up in a suburb where the only martial art actually available was karate , but when I moved up north for college I joined the martial arts club and I'm still doin' it today.

I was a delinquent in my younger days, then started martial arts when I was bit by the BJJ bug at 16. Checked out a few more martial arts, basically did a Bruce Lee and took what I could and threw out what was useless. I finally found Muay Thai (what i had originally wanted to train all this time) at 22, then trained the other tenets of MMA (boxing, wrestling) in the succeeding years. Martial arts is kind of in my blood, my grandfather, older brother and cousins were also martial artists. They're into guns now, but I stuck true to martial arts. Besides, it's much more fun stabbing someone in the stomach andf watching them die slowly then blowing their brains out. Ugh. Too messy. lol

Okay, you choose. Somebody's trying to kill you and you have to kill them before they kill you (that's how self-defense works, junior). Would you rather use a gun, which has bullets that can be traced back to the firearm which has a larger area for fingerprints or just stab them in the neck, douse the shank in alcohol and walk away? You willing to throw away a gun that costs a few hundred bucks or a knife on the table of a fancy restaurant? Geez, lighten up.
