  • My Mate's In British Film "Team 1"

One of our students (steve Morgan) had gone to london for acting school & was called upon because of his thaiboxing/Martial Arts training & is a Ninja Fighter for the new film with the Rayment Twins AKA "The Albino Twins" from the new matrix reloaded film & These scenes are filmed in london (photos by Combat Magazine) & directed by Ray Brady.
Anybody else had a small part in film or as an extra?

Also attached to ‘Team One’ are Gordon Alexander, Silvio Simac, & Buster Reeves (undefeated world kick boxing champion at three weights). The producers are in negotiations with several other potential leads, filming started Saturday 14th December 2002 for three months in London.

            The official site:

Imaginary Films is producing the first Martial Arts movie to be made in the UK. It is a combat movie set in the near future in which contestants are in competition to earn a place in the national team, who will then go on to represent the UK in the World Championships.

‘Team One’ is reversing the usual process of casting for a Martial Arts movie in that we have cast over a dozen talented leads that will each have the chance to show their own personal best moves. Instead of working to a narrative that states that such and such happens, we will be asking the leads to show us what they can do, including other talents unrelated to combat and then taking them and attempting to include them within the framework of the film's treatment and structure.

This organic process means that the full narrative will only be known when the film is finally edited in several months time. But each person chosen as a lead will have the unique opportunity to shine and let a wide international audience see how talented they are. The film will be promoted and screened at as many international film festivals interested in screening it that we can identify. The film will be released theatrically in the UK on 35mm.

In the Seventies the UK went Martial Arts crazy. ‘Kung Fu’ starring David Carradine was one of the most popular shows running on TV, ‘(Everybody was) Kung Fu Fighting’ was topping the music charts and Bruce Lee’s iconic pose from Enter the Dragon was on as many T-shirts as Che Guevara. Dojo’s and martial arts clubs where opening up in every town. Many would agree that the majority of fighters presently taking the world of international competition by storm were influenced by the national craze that started in the 70’s.

Fact File - Collectively martial arts are the second most popular sporting activity in the UK, second only to angling and incredibly ranking higher than our national game, football (many watch but few continue to play after their twenties).

In the summer of 2003 Quentin Tarantino (almost universally considered the world’s most influential director) will release his first film in six years ‘Kill Bill’ a martial arts movie. Secondly the two sequels to the global smash film the ‘Matrix’, ‘Matrix – Reloaded’ and ‘Matrix - Revolutions’ will be released in the UK in May and November 2003. Both films will heavily feature martial arts.

2003 will see the greatest rise in interest in almost thirty years. Already there are signs of this in the media: from martial arts themed commercials and extremely popular zeitgeist TV series being aired in the UK ('Masters of Combat’ & ‘Fight School’), to the proliferation of Hollywood action films featuring fight sequences which are increasingly dominated by martial arts combat. From music to fashion, I am predicting that 2003 will be the year of Martial Arts and I'm going to be there with a completed UK martial arts film in the market, ‘Team One’.

‘Team One’ will greatly differ from the films mentioned above in that no wires, stunt or action doubles will be used. The combatants in ‘Team One’ will be, in the majority, professional world-class leading exponents of martial arts. We therefore expect the fighting in ‘Team One’ to impress purists, exponents and aficionados alike in that the fighting in the film will be of a higher standard and have greater in realism than the Hollywood blockbusters. We are gathering together some of the leading competitive talent in all martial arts for inclusion in our film. International medal winners, Olympic team members will all be performing in the first UK martial arts movie.

There is a very large audience out there and they’ve been waiting for a very long time, because there is no UK martial arts movie infrastructure in place, it will be a learning curve for all involved but, what we do have is probably the most formidable array of Martial Artists across every discipline, that any one country could boast worldwide.

Purists have been crying out for a film like ‘Team One’ and see the necessary logic for it to be made, whereas aficionados, will quickly hear through word of mouth, that a new wave of Martial Arts movies is about to begin. Finally a realistic, action packed Martial Arts feature film will be made in the West, “Team One” will make the mold.

Latest - Adrian Rayment & Neil Rayment have just signed to star in ‘Team One’. The two brothers will also be starring as the Evil Twins in the eagerly awaited sequel to ‘The Matrix’, ‘Matrix: Reloaded’ starring Keanu Reeves which is due to be released in May 2003. Also attached to ‘Team One’ are Gordon Alexander, Silvio Simac, & Buster Reeves (undefeated world kick boxing champion at three weights). The producers are in negotiations with several other potential leads, filming started Saturday 14th December 2002 for three months in London.
