  • hey duchman...

You seem to know alot about Muay Thai. So, I am having trouble w/ footwork (my class doesn't spend alot of time on this) Do you step foward with the lead foot first? I know you do sometimes but is it all the time?

    thanks

    Footwork is very important.
    You have four different direction's:
    a forward thai:sub thao
    b backward thai (tooy)
    c left
    d right

    A forward
Place your leftfoot forward whitout placing all your weight on in.
When your left foot is on the ground your right foot slips forward (dont take it of the groun).Slip your rightleg to your natural fight position.

    I will post more later!

    Hope this helps

Yeah, It did help. Thanks! I learned Saturday in class that the main thing for footwork is to be light on your feet. I was aparring with this guy and he couldn't hit me. But when we were doing Thai pad work I noticed that I some times wanted to bring a shin up to block a teep??? Do you keep your eyes at your partners shoulders, I read that somewhere. I am 15 and have been training in thai boxing for a couple of months, though I trained in boxing and tae kwon do for a few years. I'm catching up with my class pretty well.

        thanks

          sambo 3 years

          HAve done kyokoshin and judo

You look at you opponent the way you feel confortable! dont look lower then the shoulders.

          More footwork comming this weekend.

Wow! You must be a pretty good fighter, do you compete?
whats your MT training like? I usually shadow box for 10 minutes, bag work for 30 and weight training for 20. I work hard because I'm in a big class and dodn't get alot of personal instruction, I try to copy what the advanced students do... My goal is to be ready to compete in a year, I used to compete a little bit in TKD but thats a whole diffrent story.
