  • How Do YOU Kick with the Left Leg?

During my TKD/Karate days, I always fought with my right leg forward since it was easier to execute lead kicks this way. However, since boxing has become the core of my fighting strategy, I assume an orthodox balanced stance with my left leg forward.

I’m curious as to how to kick effectively with the lead left leg. I’m interested in how Muay Thai fighters kick with their lead leg if it’s their left leg? I don’t seem to have a lot of power kicking with my left leg while in the front. What are some possible solutions or suggestions?

    Switching

When we do kick with the left lef in front it's for speed, and when we want more power we 'switch'. That is, quickly move your right leg forward and your left back, so you can get more power.

With the lead leg left or right, it's either a push kick to the knee/thigh, a vertical kick to the groin/head if he's on the ground, a side kick to the knee, or a stomp.

Well, in Kenpo, I fight left lead, as I do in Muay Thai (though I don't really spare Kenpo all that much).

Anyway, lead kicks in MT often involve a quick stance change. We call it the switch kick, but the left leg is momentarily hopped back before a round house kick, a lead knee, and sometimes a teep (lead foot jab)

That's how we get power into it. Anything else is seems more annoying than effective.
