  • People with Heavybags, have a question.

Hi could the people with heavy bags in there house or at there gym tell me the exact height it's hanging at.

Basicly where should a jab to the head be on the heavybag? How many inches from the top edge of the bag is the best spot on the bag?

Could you guys do a jab to the head on your heavybag then mark it and measure from top edge of bag to that spot?

    Thanks

    Example Answers.

My Jab to the head was:

2" from top= bag needs to be raised up.(but how much)

19" from top= bag needs to be lowered.(but how much)

The jab should hit about a few inches higher than dead center. You'll need room to throw body hooks and uppercuts as well.

I dont think it matters. Dont hurt your hands.

I think my jab lands about 6 or 8 inches from the top of my heavy bag and like a couple feet or three from the top of my banana bag.

If it's a heavy bag it shouldn't matter where you hit it as it doesn't move like a light bag but just make sure that your jab hits the bag at YOUR head height.

The bags in our gym hang at all different heights but i dont worry about what height they are, i just hit it at my head height.

BUT if your the only one using the bag & your setting it up for yourself then you can do 3 things:

        1. hang the bag slightlly high so your jab hits 3 quarters up & you have a base to uppercut.

        2. hang the bag low so you can jab high on the bag but it's also low for leg kicks.

        3. hang a long heavy bag & dont worry about above 2.

          Thanks guys for the help.

Another question how do you uppercut on a heavybag? Wouldn't I just be hitting air?

Yeah it's not ideal but you could always hang it high so that when you dip down you can uppercut the bottom of the bag, or just use your uppercut like a shadowbox type but hit with the rest of the combo.

Like: left jab, right cross, left uppercut, right cross......but just miss with the uppercut.

Ideally you need one of those tear-drop shaped hanging bags for uppercuts.

"just use your uppercut like a shadowbox type"

Ok that's how I have been doing it just wanted to make sure. I think down the road I'll get a tear drop bag.

              Thanks.

Iv'e got a question for anybody:

How can you clean a canvass bag? mine had a little damp get into it in the winter when i left it on the floor & now has a large patch that has stained it, i stuck it in the washing machine (empty of course!!!) but all that happened was that the red lettering made it go PINK!!! (not letting anybody see that!!!)
