  • Handicapped self defense

    Someone raised an interesting question to me recently;

    You've trained for years in martial arts and feel you can defend yourself pretty well in a violent situation but you're recuperating from a broken leg and you're still "fragile".

    Your injured leg is no good for kicking or supporting you while you kick with the other leg and you have no footwork or mobility.

    How do you defend yourself from a violent attack? Have you trained in how to fight when you're handicapped in some way or another (blinded, lame, one-armed)?

    It's amazing how important footwork can be even if you're just using hand techniques. Or for that matter how important the other senses, faculties, limbs, etc. which are only supporting the attack, can be and how much of a liability they become when you're trying to protect them from further injury.
