  • I am such a freak...

    I am such a freak . I have been training MT for about 5 months and i can't use my hands for shiet. I am such a bad puncher... The wierd thing is that my trainer says i have good elbows.. And our Tenhun from thailand saw me throwing elbows and he said that I had good elbows also... is that normal? I mean if you have good elbows shouldn't you have good hands also? So here i am with good kicks and elbows but shiety hands... a wierd freak

    don't fret ... practice eith your hands more if your not happy with them. Extend your sparring time. Idea if you want to create more depth perception with your punches and increase power and accuracy do this. Take a piece of something that is about 1 inch thick and light. Put it behind the piece of paper. Now put this on a concrete wall with tape. Now hit the paper as hard as you can without hitting the concrete. practice every day. First week will hurt, but keep practicing and you'll get better hands and great depth perception. Hope this will help...

      That reminds me of something from wing chun that i see in pics.

      Another way is to work on your boxing skills alone. Proper form, technique with a focus on light, quick punching. If you're not built like Butterbean or Mike Tyson, then you shouldn't try to throw one punch KOs. Rather learn to use your legs and hips properly - i find myself having to work on this every once in a while.

      Once you can throw a good punch, work behind your jab and putting together punch combos to wear your opponents body down and work on foot work, feinting etc.

          A Krabi-Krabong Perspective

          Well, let's see. Good elbows but lousy boxing form. You are progressing quite well, I think, learning to fight from the closest range first. Remember, distance from close to far goes elbows, fists, knees, kicks. The krabi-krabong perspective is the elbows are learned from swords, and vice-versa. Boxing is learned with staff work. You notice there is a ranging element coming into play? So maybe you should just step back a little. And work your footwork drills more. But even more important, just keep going to class and listening to your instructor and you will be fine.

            Are you practicing as a hobby, or as a way of life. This sounds silly, but the problem i see many develop is that they do not practice enough on their own. they go to the gym, but levae it there until next time. Practice slow and with with good form, are you squashing the bug? (pivoting aka sitting down on your punches), be your own worst critic. dont be in too much of a hurry to go fast or bad habits will ingrain themselves into your muscle memory. live it, think about it before you drift off to sleep, while your watching tv, stand and practice. are you keeping your elbows and chin tucked and close? something that many lack is that when you perform technique you dont know how you look. when you watch your coach you see correct form, so have him or someone else, stand next to you while you practice in the mirror. shadowbox A LOT! practice moving your head, and see what tool comes naturally from different body positions, and how one hands retraction, will fire off another punch, and from what angle. Collegitate wreestling uses I.C.E as one stage of learning, intense controlled, energy, where you have extreme focus, and fighting mindset, but are going super slow. break down the technique into it's different motions. Anyway im rambling soo, good luck, and keep training, i hope this helps.

                i would'nt consider myself "uncordinated'. It's just that punching is not a natrual form for me. Heck kicking is more comfortable.

                  Shadow box, get 20 extra hours of practice from someone who can help.

                        Sometimes it is cos one is not talented to do a specific part of sports. I myself am completely untalented for a 100 metres run. Sure, I can work on it but I will always be minimum 2 seconds behind the best though as a child I was the fastest in our class.
                        Could be a question of biology and how you develop.
