I feel more confident in my kicking ability after TKD but because we never actually put on red-suits and spar full-contact, I will never know how powerful they are.

But I did kick my friend in the arm with a MT roundhouse and numbed his whole arm. Then I kicked him with a TKD roundhouse in the other arm and he said it didn't hurt as bad.

That's probably because the MT kick hit the nerve and caused it to stop working for a bit. My students complain I do that to them all the time with low power TKD kicks to the arms. But that is because of targeting.

If you would have it with a side kick you probably would have gotten the same effect.

Hey Guys....I'm not too sure about how other martial arts train and employ their kicks (snap kicks vs. "Thai-style") and it probably doesn't matter much unless you're the one getting kicked. My background is almost exclusivly western boxing prior to migrating to Muay Thai. I have, however, fought and sparred quite a bit. I once fought a TKD practitioner (claimed to be Black Belt level) and his kicks were very quick and flashy and didn't feel too strong to me. Well, in point of fact he hit and kicked like a little girl!! Yeah, he made contact and scored "points" but it just irritated me, kinda like gnats buzzing around me, until I knocked him out with a right upper-cut. I have also fought MT fighters and every kick I have ever taken felt like a mule was kicking me! So I suppose whatever method you prefer...use speed and power!!
