  • I'm a Muay Thai stylist...

I've seen a former lumpini champion get beat by a Hung Gar instructor when I was in Thailand. The only technique that resembled Muay Thai that the Hung Gar guy did was check so he obviously had some training/familiarness with Muay Thai(who doesn't these days?). I think it depends on the style of Kung Fu to an extent in relation to vs'n Muay Thai. Obviously a wushu stylist would get killed by a Muay Thai stylist.
Most of the time Muay Thai will prevail but there is always an exception..it comes down to the individual. I've seen guys that come from schools that are known for having the worst fighters but somehow have a natural aptitude for fighting and prevail.
Did you guys see that King of the Cage a few months back where William Siriyapai fought in and got his ass kicked but had many opportunities to leg kick/body kick/knee and didn't take advantage of them?

    • Both Caucasians and Asians are Japethic peoples. Their common ancestor was a man named Japeth, who was one of the three sons of Noah. His other two brothers were Ham, who fathered the African peoples, and Shem, who fathered the Middle-Eastern peoples.

In any case, there is not one single traditional Kung fu that can beat Muay Thai at this time, considering that all things are equal between the two combatants. Of course, there is always "luck", the sucker punch, and other factors that come into play. However, the norm has always been Muay Thai defeating kung fu.

exactly what i said, the smartest thing to do is run away if you can if not then, as I have said before, grab one of the fxxkers, pound him and keep him in front so as when the other dickwabs are kicking you at least they are kicking their buddy and you are at least getting one of them, street tactics!!! If there is more than 2 of them just grab one, preferably the biggest and hit the deck with him in front, bite him, punch his head, whack his head, of the ground elbow him, basicly try and do to him what the other guys are trying to do to you it annoys me when getting jumped by a group (those days are long gone) and those techniques are the most effective that i know of,

I agree that running away is the best policy here. The key is avoidance. If you have to fight, it is also good to yell in order to get that adrenaline dump to work in your favor. At the same time, bring out your most powerful CASUALTY PRODUCING WEAPON, be it a maneuver or an actual weapon. Personally, wherever I go, except to the gym and work, my wife and daughter are always with me. Therefore, if I need to defend them on the street, I will draw my pistol (yes, I have a permit to carry it) and shoot to kill. Street fighting is not about honor or honesty -- it's about survival. Human beings understand compassion, reason, and love. Predators understand STRENGTH. In the ring, I know a multitude of techniques. On the street, I need know only ONE -- BANG!

How can you speak out of your arse like that? saying there isn't any traditional kung fu that can beat muay thai? When I myself have witnessed it..I'm not a kung fu practitioner either..I'm a Muay Thai practitioner..I've trained under Master Toddy and his camp and at a few gyms in Holland(Vos and Meijiro). I've also read about Kyokushin guys that went to Thailand many years ago and one of them prevailed. If memory serves me right I think it was the Oayama(not mas the founder of kyokushin) that started World Oyama karate(split from kyokushin). I could be wrong about him being the one that won his fight against the thai boxer but I do know I'm right that there are some Karate and kung fu practitioners that have beat Muay Thai guys. MOre times than not the Muay Thai guy does win, statistics show this..ENOUGH SAID.

"even tai chi can beat muay thai"
man...you ever been in a fight?
Bet not...wishful thinking, your probably one of the 98% of the population that think they can fight but don't know shit until they get stomped.

Don't really mean to pick on you...but that brand of blatant stupidity and complete and total moranic ignorance gets (stupid) people beat the ****-up or killed every day.
(of course...thinning out the herd ain't exactly a bad thing, either.)

Don't believe me...drop your dungeons and dragons shit, get the **** off the computer, out of your parent's basement, and try to see what the REAL world is like. Kill a 3 bottles of sparxx and a pint of jack, go to the neighborhood club and just chill...eventually some punk will do something or step or front...pull your tai chi shit...and those well practiced yoga stretches, to huddle into a ball, like an unborn fetus holding itself, and kiss your [bitch] ass goodbye.

              • tai chi chuan

you're referring to tai chi chuan..and there is more than one style of it. I have never witnessed anyone that is proficient in tai chi chuan..most people that do "tai chi"..just do "tai chi"..the excercises/forms and don't spar, learn how to fight/apply it. Look, like I have said I'm a muay thai guy and a karate guy. I have enough common sense to know that there are some karate, tae kwon do, kung fu, jiu jitsu, wrestling, savate, boxing, etc. guys out there that can beat muay thai guys and have....that's my whole point, it's not just the style..it's the person and the whole scenario of the combative situation.

                • I'm sure that if u apply the principle of tai chi,u can beat muy thai, to win a fight u dont always need pure strenght.

                  • I must say that Muay thai is great, but it me pissed me off when you guyz pretends that it's the best martial art in the world and say that kung-fu is shit. Like the muay thai always beat kung-fu because some "master" went to thailad, who said that the were really master, and what is a master for u? And a muy thai champion, is it a master too? Does being a K-1 champion make you a master?

                    Comment

                    • Okay...interesting question; does being a k-1 champion make you a master martial artist? The answer is no. Any competitive fighter, pride, ufc, ivc, k-1, is going to be better than most self styled masters of karate or kung fu. It makes you a well conditioned athlete who understands fighting at a depth that most of these pajama wearing, black belt brandishing, lard assed or twig boy bitches who've moslty never been in any fight outside of "light contact" "points", or "attack by draw" bullshit. (that attack by draw stuff only determines the winner of a gunfight, sorry)

Granted there are one or two styles of kung fu and karate (kyokushin karate, wing chun gung fu, and maybe, maybe chin na...but not san shou because it's just bastardized muay thai with some hip throws) that have practical applications for a street fight.

HA HA HA HA,this is the funniest shit I've ever heard in martial arts.Tai Chi beat Muay Thai, you have got to be kidding. It's like Garland said, you must be fucking retarded.

It's not all about pure strength to win a fight, true, but soft flowing exercise type movements definitely isn't going to help you win when confronted by someone.

The only time Tai Chi might actually work is when someone is pissed out of their mind and can't stand still but on someone sober it most definitely won't work.

Sorry to have to say this but now days no one does Tai Chi for self-defense it is mostly taught as an exercise, relaxation, and meditation.Even when it was practiced as an art of self-defense I can't imagine it was useful at all probably the reason why it isn't practiced as a self-defense art any more.

                              • Off track

For what it's worth, (just to add to the fire) I just came home from class. My instructor has his own column for Inside Kung Fu magazine and guess what we did for the last 2 hours and do every class. Give up- it's thai boxing! Now, I'm not trying to make any great statement here, but he knows a lot more than me, and I'd bet money that he knows a lot more than all of you too.
Keep up the fued though. This thread is very funny!
