Arm yourself. Learn to use the weapon and carry it every day. KNOW the laws regarding use of force and stay away from high crime locations.

For serious self defense a handgun is probably the best all around weapon and the prefered weapon of both criminals and law enforcement officers. Some JKD instructors also teach firearms training but your best bet is to not ask for opinions here. Educate yourself, try out a few styles first hand and make your own decisions...

Bullets dont care what style of martial art you study or what color your belt is ...

Purchase a tactical flashlight. It would make a great weapon and should be legal (not sure about Germany). Also check the laws on bladed weapons.

There is a martial art style called pentjack silat that came from Indonesia and made its way into Europe during the Dutch colonial days. Its a well rounded fighting system and martial art that uses a great deal of weapons.

          Look for this in Germany

I happen to know that Wing Tsun is HUGE in Germany. If you'd like to become competent, Wing Tsun would be a GREAT place to start. I know students of Leung Ting and Keith Kernspecht and Emin Boztepe, and they are damn good fighters. They have FMA and anti-grappling plus the excellent hand and footwork of wing chun. I've met traditional Wing Chun practitioners who weren't that street competent, but these guys were a different story. I was actually impressed, which doesn't happen alot. Remember it was Emin Boztepe who called the Gracies out on the "Gracie Challenge", and they refused to answer. It wasn't because the thought he was easy pickens. Boztepe has since gone on to leave that organization and begin his own called EBMAS. And that's top notch as well.

So to answer your question, Wing Tsun is very big in Germany under Keith Kernspecht or EBMAS. If you give it a try, I'm confident that you won't be disappointed, cos. EBMAS are good people with good work ethic

And now you know why I suggested not asking for advise here... I gave you bad advise about a handgun!

I was not specific in the opening sentence as a "weapon" can be anything you use with intent to inflict bodily injury. A flashlight is good advise from Tom if you train the stickfighting techniques to use it as a weapon!

Also any old pocket knife that you can carry legally and open fast if a fixed blade is not legal carry. I don't know your laws, cos!

The usefulness of the style depends on the skills of the practitioner, not purely on the art itself.

This has been asked a thousand times here at defend net without any concrete consensus. All the above have merit but I would look for a practical weapons based system
                  Eskrima - simple, practicle, effective

for "street fighting" the MOST valuable things to learn are 1) humility, 2) common fucking sense, and 3) verbal conflict management, assertion, and negotion/arbitration skills. Essential communication tools. 4) would be running. 5) would be being able to take a hit and be a chump in front of witnesses so that you can come back later and sue the shit out of the person.

In no machismo bullshit situation should you fight. Only if they have illegally arrested your movement or you feel it's inevitable that they are going to swing on you...and then you hit THEM first and don't let up until they are NON AMBULATORY, or until the ambulance gets there. Either way.

What in the Wide World of Sports is a "smoothed out murphy proof drawstroke"? LOL!

My recommendation regardless of what art you study is to maintain excellent situational awareness when you're out on the street. God knows not much good happens after midnight!

                              Definitely
would be being able to take a hit
In fighting the same rule apply as in football - try to score as much goals as possible without receiving a single one, if possible
