I work in the footwear department at a sporting goods store. If you're a martial artist, look for something made mostly out of mesh. Aside from being exceptionally lightweight, it's very breathable and will cause less sweating, swelling and will really cut down on odor (caused by the sweating). I'd recommend the Puma H Street (pictured below). It's nearly all mesh and lightweight. Only problem is, it doesn't have a lot of cushioning, so you might want to get about a half size to a whole size larger and put an insole in there. I'd go with a SofSole Athletes Plus.
