Seriously, if chucks are too dangerous, what weapon isn't. Anything with a blade is right out, as are shooters. Pocket flashlights maybe fit the bill of a relatively harmless weapon.

Practicing with a weapon is great if you know what your doing but on the street I use my brain.

a "walking stick" preferably from an appropriate hard wood about 4'to 6' is both legal and useful even a cane is ok but it is not a quality weapon but can buy you distance and or time to either escapeordeploy your main weapon if nessary while far from ideal it is both legal and useful.

My boy got jumped by 7 kids after a party. He had a "normal cane" on him lol. "Normal" meaning it has a blade at the tip when you click the skull on the handle lol. Lets just say only 3 dudes needed to find out what that felt like before they bounced. He said it was the easiest fight he ever got into, and he got jumped!

That's awesome, and there's no such thing as "fair fighting" on the street. Thugs aren't noble, or warriors, just vermin that need to be dealt with.
