What cracks me up most is WHERE he works and the fact a pocket stick is an unacceptable weapon. It's not like they ever made the news for any major stories that affected the USA and the world.

I would tell 'em I needed freedom of choice to carry the tools (within the law) I need to protect myself (first) and the people and property of the employer second. If you don't have the tools to protect yourself, how the hell are you gonna protect them? If thats to complicated for them to understand, Quit, otherwise you're a paper tiger in a world of real ones...

Knife or Kubotan

This would essentially depend on the laws in the particular state, jurisdiction, etc. It would also depend on the totality of circumstances. Like the firearm, a knife is a lethal force tool. It should not be employed were lethal force is not justified. The less-than-lethal applications of a knife (as an impact tool or a control-hold device) is what is known as inappropriate use of force. It's similar in context to attempting to use the barrel of a handgun to apply a wrist lock. Can it be done? Absolutely, but what's the point? While some of those less-than-lethal tactics do have a place they are considered rare exceptions to the rule. In short, if a knife is employed against an unarmed assailant, even if it's used as an impact tool, the fact remains that it's still a knife and the law may not be on your side, even in a legitimate self-defense situation.

With that being said, a Kubotan, or an improvised variation may be a more suitable choice for regular carry as it can effectively be employed in situations where a knife may not be legally justified. Not to mention the fact that it's easy to use, easier to retain, less intimidating for new students, and less likley to effectively be used against the student if they are disarmed.

I carry both. I feel more secure with the knife, but I also feel sketch if there's any possibility I might be pulled over by the police or questioned at a party (don't ask)...so I tend to carry a kubotan in my pocket, and a knife on the inside of my pants with the belt clip facing out under a shirt...(the cop would literally have to reach for my nuts...a step I doubt they'd want to take unless they felt they needed to or were actually putting me under arrest)/
I guess it's a compromise.
