I'm not white or black, I'm Asian, but I've been around. Grew up in New York, family lived a few blocks from Harlem. Went to school in a white trashy burb. Spent time down South in the rural/urban/burb mixture there.

I can definitely say there's a different threat profile everywhere. Too late over here to go through them in detail, but you're never "safe."

And my future job profession/s will require lots of relocating.
That's cool. I'm asian too. Chinese... what are you?

              !!

I have a daughter (age 20) that is (or seems to be "missing") I taught her a few things that she could use in her defense but I'm wondering if she only knew enough to piss off the guy that was beating on her... Yeah, it sucks! THE very best defense is avoidance of the threats in the first place. Bad associations ruin usefull habits. Your "friends" might be your worse enemies!

Think long and hard about the folks you hang out with... Even those that claim to "love" you! Sometimes it's the one closest to you that will stab you in the back! Or shoot your dumb ass dead in your tracks!

Wake UP and smell the blood Muther F#@*ers! Arm yourselves and prepare for your worse nightmare! It's going to happen sooner or later...

              Or maybe not....

What the hell do I know?

                Someone read it, thats nice.

I just thought that the conflict avoidance ideas were it good order, and that the part about actual self defense was short but summed up the kind of fighting someone needs to use in such a situation.

I live in Kingston RI, on campus of URI. Mi madre lives in North Kingstown and mi padre in Wakefield. Where do you train in RI, J-Luck.

I'm not so sure I like to spar kickboxing without training in it yet though... it is painful to do a leg kick... the pros make it look so easy, but I was really bruised.

ooo... boxing is so much fun. The footwork is invaluable... I think it's one of the most practical forms of self defense(I know I'm going to take flak for that one)

I think you're on the right track Dan... Pardon my post from last night, a bit of the vino tends to skew my perspective and personal worries jump out of nowhere...

Just a tip and a bit of advice... First Mark "Animal" MacYoung has researched these issues in depth and published several articles you and EVERYONE that thinks they are a "martial" artist should read.

It will be worth your time!

A look at training, practices and the business of martial arts

Second and even more important if you don't like being locked in a cage, you need to understand the legal and civil implications of using force. "SELF DEFENCE" is a legal term used to JUSTIFY your actions in a court of law!
