Then you don't need to put your seat belt on if you're a pretty good driver right?Originally posted by WildWest. View PostThanks to those who explained why they carry weapons. I'm not convinced doing it is what I would call healthy but I don't live where you do so reserve judgement.
Yes, in a "street fight" I, and most other MAists would use a weapon if the situation demanded it. I just wondered if it was necessary to carry them when you lived somewhere relatively safe.

How can one apply or create a street style if there are no streets?

In most fights, especially rule-less fights (like street fights), I use strikes similar to Muay Thai, and some principles found in Taekwondo, such as using momentum from your body movement. this keeps you moving, and makes your hits count a little more. As far as styles go, I suppose it would be fractions of Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and responses similar to Shaolin or Wing Chun, depending on situation (by responses, I mean reacting to a hit from blocking/deflecting in order to set you up for a desent counter). This is effective in alot of fights, including against multiple opponents. But, other then MT Clinch and simple manuvering your opponents, grappling would be considered a weakness >.< I usually try to get out of the grapple (again, especially in a multiple-opponent fight.). Flips and manipulating you see in Aikido (the circular motion is the idea i 'spose), etc. work well. thats what I do. So can I ask what else you consider effective?

Geez, dont take it so literal.Originally posted by jubaji View PostThat's not what "Coprporate America" means. It is not a geographical designation, it just refers to the business world in this country.
I was using it as reference on how many work in the city and reside outside

It depends on your locale and environment-I was responding to WILDWEST postOriginally posted by Mikeb85 View PostWell, out of my group of aquaintances, all of them carry or have carried a weapon...(knives and guns) I seldom carry a weapon anymore though, nowadays I don't really go anywhere at night, and don't walk anywhere either (still a knife in my car though). You can never assume an assailant will be unarmed, I'd rather be armed and ready.
That said, it's more a deterrant than anything. Someone shady approaches you, you reach into your coat pocket, he's gonna know you're carrying something. He's definitely going to be thinking twice about attacking you... I've never actually pulled a knife out/shanked someone, never want to.

I'll warn you. Bear Kung Fu is not a complete system. It leaves you open for counter attacks.Originally posted by 47MartialMan View PostI want to learn bear Kung Fu.
Should I go in the woods and watch them closely?

Only a scant few of 200+ of my office co-workers actually carry a weapon. Those that do, only carry one if they happen to be in a area of intense violence or crime.
I have been doing a study on violent crime, assaults, and behavior and I must say, although Amercia is fascinated with the gun, there are many brutal acts of violence with knives, tools, and etc., in countries such as the UK, Germany, India, and even Canada, to name a few.
