i was just wondering, is it possible for certain people to carry illegal weapons with the permission of the police for self defense purposes? for example would there be a possibility of the police dept giving someone a permit or license to carry around something like a collapsible baton or a pocket tazer for self defense if he passed the proper requirements? do police departments ever do anything like that?

All you have to do is call your local police/sherriff department. Ask what permits and classes you have to take in order to carry tazers, mace, guns, batons, knives...ect for self-defense. Obviosly don't come off sounding like a whack job. They'll let you know what's legal and what isn't and where to go for specific classes and permits for civilians.
