That does not say "the privelage of the people," it says "the right."

It's also interesting to note that at the time our Second Amendment was written, "Militia" referred to all the people able to carry and use a firearm. The people of a given town or colony were responsible for their own defense in many cases. It's also interesting (and damaging to those who make the argument that "militia" now refers to our police or military) to note that at the time it was written in Pennsylvania, there was no standing organized militia force. Also, at the time of its writing, the founders were far more concerned with despotic government getting out of control and suppressing its people than they were about outside threats. The people had a right to be armed because it was particularly this right that allowed them to be citizens and avoid becoming subjects.

The Second Amendment clearly says the right of the people. It does not say the constabulary or the military - both of which were common in those days. It says: The People. It follows up promptly with "Shall Not Be Infringed."

    Nuff said, I think.

Mike, I don't feel theneed to agree with anyone. But I do like when I hear people speak from my own soul, nonetheless.

I like that image you included on Hegelian (spelling) Dialectics.

Most people think anarchy is about stupid kids in leather jackets smoking cigs, refusing to eat meat, and being little fu*koffs.

Anarchy is mostly about the belief that no one is going to solve your problems for you better than you can do so yourself - and that it's your job to handle your own problems.

When authority offers to solve your problems for you, it rarely does. You just end up enslaved to the people whom you enlisted the authority.

      I guess it's pretty obvious I'm an anarchist through-and-through.

When I was an infant, if you took something away from me because it was dangerous, I would beat my head on the floor as hard as I could til you gave it back.

I have always been an anarchist.

Yes, and while we are at it, let's get rid of deer rifles. Because, frankly, they make awesome sniper rifles...

And, while we are at it, let's make starlight scopes illegal for the public, and thermo goggles too. They don't need em, so take em away.

And, frankly, now that we're on the subject, I can't see why the public needs to do any martial art that involves taking an opponent's back and strangling him. That seems to easy for muggers and rapists to access, and we don't need our law enforcement dealing with THOSE GUYS do we?

even bows.. I mean, they are nearly silent, compared to a firearm.. So we better get rid of them, too. We aren't native americans, so why do we need bows? Let's take those from the people (to protect them from themselves, because, really, the people are violent children and need their parental government to keep the sharp objects away..)

Hm. Now that we are really thinking about it, I don't think people should have access to any knife with a blade length longer than..oh..3 inches. I mean, if you can't cut that meat off the deer (that you killed with a sling shot, cause rifles are just too dangerous and bows are "silent killers") with a 3 inch blade, then you don't deserve the meat.

Hm. In fact, why do the people need slingshots? Those can be used to sling makeshift incendiaries and by saboteurs to distract sentries.. Better get rid of them too.

mike what do you think should be available to the public? should the public be allowed to have any weapon, or only certain kinds? should anti tank rockets and mines, and all sorts of weaponry be available to all? or do favor any kinds of restrictions??

your post has good ideas. im just not very informed about guns and gun laws, thats why i was asking people for their opinions on the matter. im starting to get interested in firearms and training responsibly with them.

a lot of good points were brought up in this thread. ultimately its people who decide they want to harm others, not the tools they use.
