  • Krav Maga

    Hey everyone,

I thought I'd ask some experienced people about Krav Maga. I just started about 2 months ago and already I feel significantly better prepared for a street fight. But in my class we don't spar so I'm really not sure if it would work in real life. They do offer a sparring class but it's out of my budget. So I was wondering if you all think Krav really does prepare you for most street fights, can you really take on 4 attackers (we train with 1-4 attackers), and how long should it take before I deserve to feel confident on the street? I do it twice a week an hour at a time and mix in 2 hours of BJJ, too. Although, I'm not to keen on going to the ground in a street fight, but it's a great workout and fun! Thanks in advance.

Are you saying you have to pay to spar? ....if that is the case......WTF You can not get good at fighting if you don't spar...period. What federation is your KM school under.

I'd look around mate and compare your class with others in your area. Sparring should be part of the class and not an "extra cost". Personally, I think that is a joke.

        Hey,

You should have some sparring in normal classes especially in advanced classes. That is the only was to put what you learn to the test. Exercises like "the circle of death" where you face multiple attacker in a high stress situation should be in almost every good Krav Maga class.

We also run a "Krav Club" once a week which is a full contact sparring class. Which gives people who want to go really hard the chance to test their skills in as close to reality as possible scenario.

Maybe look around and see what other centres offer, sometimes the instructors differ in style of teaching dramatically!

        I hope that helps!

Thank you everyone. The only thing is that I live in a small Texas town and there's not too much else offered. There's American Tae Kwon Do and Aikido. Aikido seems awesome because you can put someone down without hurting them (useful as a teacher) but doesn't seem too realistic and the tae kwon do stuff just doesn't appeal to me. I'm not sure what federation our school is under but we do the circle drill with 1-4 "attackers" coming at you with pads.

You are wise to question the quality of instruction... How far are you from Mousel's academy?

You would do well to engage your training partners with some serious INTENT.

That is the biggest "TEST". Trying to play or trying to maim or kill?

I'd rather shoot every weekend than train crap maga disarms... But I don't know your instructors.

I only went to a few seminars. Take what is useful... make it your own.

It's not how you die that makes you a hero but how you live...

I'm not even a minor JKD man. Tim M is a JKD man. Tim Tackett is a BIG JKD MAN!

I'd rather do judo most of the time...

If there's no sparring in class, why don't you team up with some classmates for some extracurricular sparring after class?
